The Gordon Gekko Guide to Crypto-Part One: No One Likes a Cry Baby

Anyone that has an interest in crypto, or any form of investing for that matter, could learn a few important lessons from Gordon Gekko. The iconic character played by Michael Douglas in Wall Street and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps might not be the most likable guy, but he knows his stuff when it comes to trading.

I had an idea that it would be fun to take some of Gekko's quotes from the films and mine them for cryptocurrency investing wisdom. The results might surprise you. I've chosen ten quotes, and each part of this series will offer some thoughts on how the quotes can be applied to your passion for crypto.

Today's quote:

Don’t run when you lose, don’t whine when it hurts. It’s like first grade. No one likes a cry baby.

Take a look at your Steemit feed today. Especially check out those Bitcoin and cryptocurrency tags. There's a lot of concern about the market right now, and maybe that's merited. I mean, some people have lost a lot of value in the last few months. Were you one of them? Gordon's message to you is, "Get over it."

Whining about your losses just isn't profitable. It serves no valuable purpose. At the end of the day you're still going to be down and looking to recoup. Don't drag everyone else down into your pit of despair. Gut up, find some fortitude, and soldier on. Save the war stories for the bar.

I know that sounds a little bit harsh, but Gekko is harsh. And successful. You rarely see him in a moment of weakness. Be like Gekko.

Here's the thing. Whining about the market is the cry of a loser. You're not one, are you? Instead, redouble your efforts to study your charts. Get your hands on any information you can. Make Steemit posts like my friend @truce that are entertaining and contribute to the platform. Don't be a victim. You made a choice to invest. No one twisted your arm.

Focus on things you can control instead of things you can't. You're only lost when you surrender the control of your ship. And believe me, there are a lot of things you can control. The first one of these is emotion. An emotional investor is a doomed investor. You have to take emotion out of the equation and focus on your decisions. Your decisions matter far more than outcomes. Make enough good ones and you'll be just fine.
