Top Poker Site Americas Cardroom Now Accepts Insane Number of Different Types of Cryptocurrency
Americas Cardroom (ACR), a subsidiary of Winning Poker Network (WPN) will become the first poker site to accept seventy-two (72) different types of cryptocurrency.
That’s an insane amount. Most cryptocurrency exchanges don’t even list that many coins/tokens! I can only assume that ACR wants to be open to as many potential customers as possible by accepting so many and that it there is no significant software cost with each added coin.
CR isn’t small potatoes. It is #7 based on poker traffic according to PokerScout.com.
Cryptocurrency acceptance for online poker is a no-brainer as it side-steps the global banking system. The banking system is how the government has been able to regulate and restrict industries that they feel are harmful.
Online Poker “Black Friday”
I’m old enough to remember the golden years of online poker boom in the United States before what is now known as Black Friday, when in 2006, after years of unsuccessful attempts to ban online poker, it had to be secretly added in a port security bill in the last-minute amendment.
The bill didn’t ban online poker. Instead it targeted financial institutions (banks!) that handled poker site money, making it illegal to deal in gambling proceeds.
Fast forward 11 years and little has changed in the United States after Black Friday.
2017: The Rise of Cryptocurrencies
However, what has changed is the cryptocurrency boom.
Poker sites have no reason to involve the banking system. That’s why so many companies are issuing ICOs to capture gambling market share.
I’m not sure which companies out of my list (and more are added to that category with each passing month) will dominate the online casino and poker market, but once one has taken the iron throne, I’ll will be ready to support the comeback in the US.

I wish I knew. It is a very crowded sector within the cryptocurrency world. Poker traffic, easy of use for interface, and reward structure will be big factors. If a company also grabs a few poker pro whales that will also go a long way as well.
