The volume of SegWit transactions in the Bitcoin network has reached a new record

in #bitcoin6 years ago

The number of transactions with support Segregated Witness (SegWit) at some point in the last day reached an absolute record since the activation of the Protocol in August last year. Thus, in block 522346 this value was 55.48%.

This is evidenced by the data of the analytical resource segwit.party.

In the future, the number of transactions with SegWit support decreased slightly and is currently held at a level slightly above 36%.

At the same time, the developer of BitGo Murch drew attention to the fact that the figure of 95.65% was recorded on the block 5196.

After more research, it turns out that at least the blocks in the last 30d that are shown as having 100% segwit transactions (521983, 521587 521427 521321, 521210, 520783, 520418, 519916, 519532, 519529, 519368, 519097, 518997, 518703) on http://segwit Oh.party / charts are empty blocks. https://twitter.com/murchandamus/status/995493848326422528

Additional analysis showed that over the past 30 days, blocks with 100% SegWit support were mined, but all of them were empty.

At the same time, Murch draws attention to the unprecedented number of blocks larger than 1Mb and reminds SegWit critics that This solution is not only aimed at reducing transaction costs, but actually brought an increase in the block size.

It is the argument that SegWit kept the block size limit at 1Mb and does not give the bitcoin network the necessary scaling, often cited by so — called supporters of "big blocks" - primarily followers of Bitcoin Cash.

Meanwhile, @CoreFeeHelper data shows that for the given hour, the amount of Commission required to confirm the transaction in the next block is 3.3 Satoshi / byte
