Do you find these services useful though? Is there really a difference between chatting with contributors to the community here, youtube or some other space? I have been able to do very well over the last 4 years just chatting people up and spending my mornings reading.

Chatting is fine, but remember that everyone has an opinion, and we should give more weight to people with more investing credibility. Tools can help, by being an objective source (as opposed to subjective opinion).
