As we interact over this STEEM blockchain, we shouldn't forget that today is a significant day in the history of blockchain. The first blockchain and its first application of a cryptocurrency called Bitcoin has turned 10 today.

Yes today was the day in 2008 when White Paper for the Bitcoin was first proposed.

On this day, let me compile a little trivia about Bitcoin.:

• Bitcoin White Paper.was titled Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System

• The founder of Bitcoin named Satoshi Nakamoto is still a mystery and no one knows about this/these person(s).

• Bitcoin inventor Satoshi Nakamoto was nominated for Nobel Prize in Economics in 2015. But this nomination was difficult to accept by the Nobel Prize committee as Nobel Prize can not be awarded anonymously. Still Satoshi Nakamoto chose not to reveal their identity.

• Professor Bhagwan Chowdhry, who had nominated Satoshi Nakamoto's name even said that he can accept the award and deliver the award acceptance speech on Nakamoto's behalf

• Although White Paper for Bitcoin was presented on this date in 2008, bitcoin.org domain name was registered a couple of months prior to it on 18th August 2008. (Bitcoin.com was booked on 4th January of the same year).

• Although the initial idea of Bitcoin was proposed through a White Paper in October, 2008; Bitcoin network came into existence only in January, 2009.

• The first exchange BitcoinMarkets.com was launched in March 2010 (which is not functional anymore).

• A few months later (on May 22, 2010), the first real world transaction of Bitcoin happened when Laszlo Hanyecz famously bought two pizzas by paying 10,000 BTC in Florida. The highest price for bitcoin across 2010 was $0.39.

• Earlier this year, Bitcoin prices sky rocketed to $20,000. It was $38,000 in African Exchange at that time. Today it's hovering around $6300-$6400.

• According to January 3, 2018 prices, Satoshi Nakamoto's wallet was worth an astonishing $16.5 billion in bitcoins.

• Out of max 21 million bitcoins, only 17.35 million bitcoins are in circulation as of today.

• 64% of Bitcoins have never been used and might never be used.

• If blockchain ledger technology is used by top 10 investment banks, it could save $8-$12 billions.

• In 2013, Nakowa won 11,000 Bitcoins on a gambling website.

• Sometimes people loss bitcoins when they dispose off their old computers as scrap. James Howell lost 7,500 Bitcoins by throwing his hard drive.

• Bitcoin network is more powerful than 500 super computers put together.

• In 2016, a bitcoiner accidentally sent $137,000 worth of bitcoins instead of intended $5. Transactions on blockchain are irreversible and immutable.

• One bitcoin transaction consumes 3994 times more energy than a credit card transaction.
