Why you should have a Bitshares wallet and if possible get some Bitshares tokens (Bitshares for Beginners)
Steemians are open to a lot of opportunities mostly in the crypto world and this is because our platform is blessed with a lot creative and helpful people as well as professional industry leaders.
Excluding the monetary gains, I have gain more knowledge and venture into more business orientated activities ever since joining steemit than I have while just doing my normal facebook and Google search.

Well Bitshares is a lot of things put in one thing.
Bitshares is first; a Decentralized Autonomous Company (DAC) that offer crypto and blockchain related financial services worldwide among which include:
Decentralized Exchange: Bitshares is a decentralized exchange (direct opposite to central exchanges like bittrex and poloniex) that’s built on graphene blockchain and offer fast, reliable and secure financial trading experience to traders with minimal fees that are divided among members.
Crypto Wallet: Bitshares can serve as a wallet to store your wealth of cryptocurrencies and tokens under one secure roof on the blockchain where no third party or a single company operating from kitchen would be in charge of your digital assets. So if you have a growing portfolio of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin STEEM ETH, DASH and a lot of them, you can have them safely saved on Bitshares otherwise graphene blockchain.

Yeah bro, decentralized exchange is the solution to all the problems centralized exchanges are bringing daily and when the real value of Bitshares is discovered by crypto traders and investors, we can hope for increase in our holdings as early investors
@bania - Decentralized exchanges will become very important once governments become more desperate about the leak of equity from their national fiat currencies. I expect the currency wars to continue to escalate and cause a financial reset by the early 2020's.
Anyone currently holding on an exchange should get a hardware wallet to ensure your coins can't be confiscated.
Yeah, that's a brilliant idea man, the nearest futures hold some of the radical changes of our generation. A lot of things will change and we that are equipped with the right knowledge will thrive
I've been trading on Bitshares for about a month now and have seen a good amount of success. I'm quite happy with the gains I've made. Bitshares was the first trading platform I've ever used. It does take some time to learn, but it is well worth it.

I don't use Bitshares web or desktop wallet, i use openledger web platform so i might not know much about your enquiry.
However if you don't have funds on your previous wallet you could try getting a new one either using Bitshares desktop app https://bitshares.org/download/ or use the openledger web platform https://bitshares.openledger.info/
