Driving Community Driven Projects On The Blockchain With Native

in #blockchain6 years ago (edited)

My journey into cryptocurrency has had its ups and downs like many of you. It is an ever evolving and changing the world with new ideas, projects and users moving in and out of projects each and every day. The concept of decentralisation has opened up new ways of thinking and as we look to not only apply it to our digital world but to the world around us.

One of the concepts that have become fundamental to any cryptocurrency/blockchain/decentralised initiatives is the strong sense of community. A group of people who believe in the vision, the technology and actively invest in projects that match their core beliefs, ideas and they want to see create a certain outcome.

Not every project is completely profit driven and some would like to create sustainable development, some would want it to be based on a particular interest or geographical location, its all up to the community on how they decide to recruit, grow and execute their plans.

We've seen these fanatical groups with STEEM, PIVX and Dogecoin creating some pretty interesting community projects and Native looks to play up this kind of behaviour by offering a platform catered to creating community-based projects.

A brief explanation of natives vision

Benefits of native

Instead of using your favourite established cryptocurrency to come together as a community you can use native and create tokens for your community. This breeds a sense of comradery and allows users to feel like they're part of something they're passionate about.

Native makes it easier to bring like-minded people together and in an open and decentralised platform generate funds and then decide on how funds are used.

Impact Native wants to make

Native wants to harness the power of community by creating a platform that allows users of all interests to come together and execute projects they are passionate about. When you get a group of people together who all think along the same lines and contribute resources to achieve a goal amazing things happen and with the open ledger of the blockchain it is there for all to see in a trustless environment.

How to get started with Native

To get started with native all you would need to do is head to their platform site and create an account. Once you're in you can either search for communities that interest you or create ones that you can look to recruit users with similar interest.

Once you've created or joined a group together you can come up with ways of raising funds, how it should be spent and what your goals are as a community. Through a voting system projects can then be submitted and backed and then resources allocated to it to be used.

Use cases for Native

We all know mainstream entertainment is about views and selling ad space and certain concepts don't always do well with larger audiences but that doesn't mean the content is sub-par or doesn't have people following it.

Now with Native, you could look to reach out to fans and see if you could have a say in how your favourite content is produced.

Let's say one of your favourite TV show was cancelled and the final season was in the work but canned because of ratings. You could, in essence, create a fan request community and raise funds for projects such a basic crowdfunding or make it more complex and create various events, merch sales and more to create a pool of funds to actually fund the final season's production and reward your favourite creatives for the joy they brought into your life.

This allows content creators to take risks instead of stick to their formats form networks and allow fans to enjoy unrestricted content that they love.

What I think of Native

The way I see native is a hybrid crowdfunding tool that acts as a resource and a gateway for personal or community projects. That being said I don't see its tech being highly competitive or disruptive in a way that would attract users from traditional crowdfunding and crypto-based community projects in favour of its platform.

I think native offers an overcomplicated solution to an issue that isn't in dire need for disruption or competition. Looking at the current market and uses for cryptocurrency I highly doubt that Native can really compete or carve out a viable niche for itself. It doesn't have a strong enough use case in my opinion, people can live without it pretty easily and still be efficient in the way they run their projects.

The concept of Native is idealistic but when applied to the market I simply cannot see how it offers a viable alternative that could capture a largely untapped market or the current market. I wouldn't be very confident in investing in it nor using the platform for any of my projects.
