Este veterano inversor del famoso Silicon Valley y oriundo de la ciudad de San Francisco en los Estados Unidos, es de acuerdo a la revista Forbes el más adinerado hombre del mundo de las criptomonedas, siendo valorada su fortuna en más de 6.000 millones de dólares, esto de acuerdo a información. Entre los emprendimientos en los cuales a ha participado como cofundador están: Ripple, Prosper Marketplace, E-Loan, Palo Alto Funding Group. Se autodefine como "radicalmente pro consumidor" y ha sido propulsor de movimientos en California enfocados a defender la "privacidad finaciera".
Con respecto al proyecto Ripple (XRP), se trata de un desarrollo basado en software libre, que se enfoca en un sistema de crédito en el cual cada nodo funciona como un sistema de cambio local, lo que lo hace una especie de banco mutualista descentralizado, visto de forma práctica en pequeña escala, sería algo así como una extensión del sistema bancario existente, en el cual existirán canales de pago alternativos que no pasarían por el banco central. En pocas palabras este hombre logró crear su propio sistema financiero internacional, pero adaptado localmente, todo soportado por su propia criptomoneda.
