To what extent can technology improve our travel experiences?

In the middle ages people were tourists because of their religion, whereas now they are tourists because tourism is their religion, said Robert Runcie. Indeed, the number of people that spend their time (and resources) traveling is increasing year by year, at national and global level. Tourism now offers a multitude of options - travelers have the right to be picky, on one side; on the other, service providers have to adapt to comply the demands and requirements of individuals continually. Without a doubt, technology plays an essential part in this revolution. Let's take a closer look at how technology has been influencing the travel and tourism sector and what changes should we expect shortly.

A possible contradiction of technology

For some people, the internet and the development of IT types of equipment have only provided improvements in regards to traveling. Due to the online environment, a new generation of Instagram travelers, travel bloggers and influencers have become popular. Now, it's easier than ever to promote such experience, to do live streams, to post a lot of HQ media and interact with fans. Also, individuals can get all sorts of reviews (for hotels, restaurants, etc) with just a single click or a simple tap on the screen. At the same time, technology has not always improved the travelers' experiences - take for example the table kiosks (at hotels) that have not really been used. So it seems it's companies to decide carefully on what technologies to adapt to attract and retain businesses.

Mobile use is on the rise

During the last years, more and more people have been exclusively using their mobile devices to plan their entire trips, to share their adventure with friends, families or the whole world, and do research or manage their travels. We use our smartphones for flight or hotel check-ins, to get our itinerary updated, to do our shopping, to book everything else. Everything is done faster now, and everything is safe in the cloud. Moreover, some hotels offer their guests the possibility to control the room temperature, to order room service or chat with other guests through mobile apps. And maybe soon, the Internet of Things will take things to the next level.

Machines and artificial intelligence

AI and machine learning are going to transform the manner in which individuals prepare their trips, choose their destinations; and also help businesses in this industry. This also allows the development of virtual travel agents, who try to remove some of the friction in online travel planning and booking - users can merely chat or provide their personal data to virtual travel agents that can then recommend and book a perfect holiday, personalized to each needs.

Having all this information still fresh in our minds, take a look at a project that aims to gain momentum from these recent changes and trends to radically improve the travelers' experience and offer small and medium businesses in this sector to an opportunity to more comfortable reach clients and promote their offers - TravelChain.

Nowadays, we have access to virtually everything within our fingertips. We can now browse and compare flights (without having to drop by a travel agency). I love checking out websites showing error fares as usually, I end up finding really cheap deals. Web sites or apps like Skyscanner also make it ridiculously easy to compare flights and find the cheapest deal possible. Apart from that, with apps like Uber, Blah Blah car, you have easy access to alternative transport options, ridding you free of annoying taxi cabs who charge exorbitant rates.

Oh yeah I totally agree. I'm a traveler myself and I never leave my house without the gadgets because it is true that you might miss out on a moment when you are focused on your technology, but if I can share something as incredible and this with my readers I choose to do that.

thanks for info! I heard nothing about this project but it seems to be really good and useful! It can increase the quality of travelling and let more peopel share their experience.
Travelling gives us new lives. The more we travel, the more lives we can live because every trip is a new breath and new page.
