Good morning, Steemers. Want to get your mind off the markets? Let's visit some interesting blockchain tech.

On-demand supercomputers?

Run a research facility and need some massive work done? Ok, you need a boatload of computing power, a supercomputer. But what if it's not cost-effective to build one just for you? Here comes on-demand supercomputer network, Golem, to the help.

So what is Golem? It's an open source and global decentralized peer-to-peer network of individual users looking to rent out their computing power and project owners, who need work done. This decentralized network has a built-in Ethereum-based payment system, enabling the project owners to pay directly for the power used.

The concept isn't itself new. You are probably aware of cloud-based crypto mining. This project takes it a step further, enabling CGI artists, researchers, mathematicians, miners or anyone else who needs more computing power, to take advantage of this vast on-demand network.

Hang out with a group of math-guys? Bundle your power to solve that hard-ass equation. Render a giant hi-definition image? Bundle up! Need to process the data from the Large Hadron Collider? Go for it!

Users who lend out their computing resources, get paid in GNT - the Golen Network Token, which, at the time of writing this post, has a value of $0.96

The project is in it's infant steps, but looks promising. The dev team has named various stages of development after golems, of which the most stable ones, Stone Golem and Iron Golem, should be ready 24 and 48 months after their crowdfunding campaign.

From Lithuania comes an innovative learning platform, BitDegree. BitDegree is an online blockchain-powered education platform. Immediately some questions arise. Why would someone need a blockchain powered education platform?

Step 1 of world domination plan - get on the blockchain to be instantly ahead of the competition. All student records are recorded on the blockchain for sponsors to view. Sponsors can reward students for completing courses with Bitdegree tokens, the amount varies depending on the sponsor. Tokens in turn can be spent at those same sponsors and/or multiple preselected service providers.

Why would the sponsors reward students for completing their courses. Ah, but this is an excellent way for them to see and pre-select the talents early and grab ahold of them.

If you're still hesitant about the project - read this: most of the courses on Bitdegree will be IT oriented and all courses will be free for the first year.

But whats more interesting, is that BitDegree LLC is one the few companies to get it's local national banks approval for a legal token sale in its country of operation, Lithuania.

The concept of a on-demand decentralized supercomputer using something like Golem is quite game-changing and has wide reaching applications far beyond what most people can even think of at the current time. It is however a fairly complex venture compared to many of the other blockchain projects out there today so it will be interesting to see how this technology develops over the next few years (even if it moves slower then some other projects in the space).

To have access to more computing power without buying those ultra expensive rig yourself is a brilliant idea in my opinion. Though all the uses of the blockchain technology listed in this article are all very useful and innovative in its own right. From what I see it will only be a matter of time before blockchain technology become an integral part of our lives like the internet. Kudos to you.

It could be a brilliant idea but not on this environment, i believe it will not succeed because there is no such thing as dedicated currency or token, a currency is something that i can buy or sell for any thing.

I am looking forward to using Golem someday. Keeping education records on a blockchain could really ease transcript costs when applying to various institutions and employers.

I like your post you @furious-one

The idea of an on-demand supercomputer network is wonderful It means it can be shared amongst several users.

I am particularly excited to hear that 'Users who lend out their computing resources, get paid in GNT - the Golen Network Token, which, at the time of writing this post, has a value of $0.96'

This is worth sharing with friends. Thank you.

SONM guys are great too. Watch these both project very closely

Very interesting projects, my dear friend!
As for Golem, there is absolutely nothing new here. A lot of such projects, which give the same opportunities. But the introduction of crypts into it can attract many users.
The BitDegre project is very interesting and I think that the guys will succeed.

Thank you for the article, @furious-one!

As always, your expert opinion on some crypto-currencies is very important to me.
