tl:dr; Korea may become of the one world’s foremost centers of crypto/blockchain innovation. Join me from October 23-25 for a 3 day exploration of “the world’s most innovative country” to assess for yourself.

Crypto Exploration Requires Immersion

Just over a year ago, I announced the first “Crypto Valley Trip” to explore the decentralized future in Zug, Switzerland.

That initial idea morphed into Crypto Explorers and resulted in 5 trips within 12 months and 200 alumni from more than 30 countries.

We were also highlighted twice on Fred Wilson’s blog and quoted in the Economist and generated a number of raving fans such as Hen, Alex, Bryce, and Sam, among many others.

During this trip, we learned a ton about decentralized governance, Switzerland, and crypto and more with each subsequent visit. Plus, our guests built instant global networks of crypto enthusiasts.

From all of these conversations, we also learned that crypto innovation is happening in many, many places around the world.

One of the most promising is Korea…and that is why Crypto Explorers@K0rea is necessary.

Korea as a potential Crypto-Nation

After long conversations with attendees such as Jin Ho, Seungyeon, and Jisoon, during the various trips, we started to realize that Korea has the potential to become a powerhouse of innovation in the blockchain/crypto revolution.

This hypothesis was confirmed during my trip this past March as I met with more people in the Korea crypto ecosystem.

My findings resulted in an article in Bitcoin Magazine, Op Ed: Why Korea Could Be the First Cryptocurrency-Powered Nation.

The basic idea is that Korea has an impressive set of capabilities ranging from

technical universities that are increasingly highly regarded
a growing startup scene
a government/regulatory environment that could be friendly
unique defense and scalability experiences
a strong infrastructure for connectivity.
Plus, given its size, it must be export-minded, unlike China.

What’s more, Korea has already been recognized as the world’s “most innovative country” by the Bloomberg Innovation Index.

Bottom line: there’s already a lot going on in Korea and exploring it for a few days makes a lot of sense, for those trying to understand how the decentralized future may take shape.

So, what are we going to do?

Well, we have lined up 12 speakers so far from all across the Korea crypto ecosystem including: Icon, HMP Law, Terra.money, Useful Coin, Quoine Inc., Token Post, Metaps Plus, CMT Digital, Xtock, Odwin Network, and Kyber Network Korea.

Together with them and your fellow Crypto Explorers, we will all do a “deep dive” into what’s going on in Korea and what is means for the rest of the world for the future of decentralizing technologies.

Here’s how we will get it done.

Day 1, we will be in Gangnam, the heart of the “new Korea” (yep, that Gangam), investigating how Korea has morphed from a poor, rural country in the 1950s to one of the top 10 GDPs in the world.
Day 2 will be spent in SamcheogGak, connecting with Korea’s long history and culture, in order to understand what makes the country unique, looking for insights to the future.
Day 3 will be a trip to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea.
We’ll explore the unique role that the North plays in driving crypto innovation in the South. Plus, having been there already, I can tell you that it’s a very intense experience.
