When I was cruising Twitter earlier today, I stumbled upon a tweet from @Blockchan, announcing a new monetized social media platform on the Steem Blockchain.
I hurried over to their site to find out more...
A Mystery
Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of info available on the Blockchan.com homepage yet.
Next to a short promotional video and the message about being decentralized, monetized and uncensored, you can only find a signup form to stay up-to-date.
In the three blog posts that can be found on the website, there is not a lot of info provided either. It looks likes the platform will work under the same conditions as SteemIt.
Blockchan is a revolutionary, decentralized, social media platform, built on blockchain technology. To be specific: we’re built on the Steem (STEEM) blockchain.
On Blockchan, everyone has the opportunity to monetize! Our users are rewarded for the value they bring.
We believe strongly in free speech, and so, on our platform, no one can ever be censored for speaking about their various beliefs.
On the website, you can find a short introduction of the team, but that's about it. Founder appears to be fellow Steemian @niopomilia, who expressed to be a fan of SteemIt in his introductory post two months ago.
His partner, @stevenpomilia, describes himself on his profile as a 'Computer Programmer & Blockchain/Crypto Enthusiast'.
Both haven't been very active on SteemIt, so there is no way to tell if they are capable of building something solid.
SteemProjects
On March 7th, the developers have submitted a project approval request to be listed on Steemprojects.com, which has been approved. They are currently listed here.
Can It Compete?
On several channels, the launch of the website and the mobile app is announced, but I couldn’t find any information on the exact date. On SteemProjects, the estimated launch date for the beta version is set to April 1st.
I will be keeping an eye out for this. I’m curious to know more, and to see how and if it will be able to compete with other Blockchain apps that were recently released, like for example Steepshot.io.

To be honest I don't like their photos and descriptions so would not give it a second glance. Maybe why I never look at who actually works on these projects. We have steem so if it does launch it is a simple thing to go play there.
I too have big doubts about it, but I am curious to see what they will have to offer
The nice thing I think with the SMT system is we already have the big daddy coin, so it is a case of just "delegating" a bit over to explore, surely we can do it all progressively. Unless you jump to EOS but that is in like 2 years, I could be dead by then.
From what you've wrote, the site sounds very similar to steemit.com . They advertise with the same slogans that apply here. I wonder if they will have some very good design choices ( though Im doubtful about that with just one programmer ), but otherwise there is not very much different from this site here.

That makes me curious, because if they want to compete with SteemIt, or any other of the Blockchain apps, they've got to have a special trick up their sleeve...
There are a few of these cropping up lately I have noticed I think we are further towards smt's now than we realise we are seeing more of this and yet ironically steemit is not telling us.

This seems a little interesting. I think it would have a bit more merit if it wasn't built on a blockchain that is already established. I agree with others that it doesn't really seem that they are bringing anything new to the table.

It looks like this is going for a facebook type market and while I look forward to the blockchain app that kills the FB market share I think they are wasting the name blockchan. When I first read the name I assumed it would be an image board like 4chan and 8chan and I got excited.
Sadly though, it doesn't seem that way. Hopefully someone will make that app soon.
