The Effect of Exercise on Depression and Anxiety

It is logical that if you have depression or anxiety, the last thing you want to do is exercise. But, however, exercise can relieve symptoms.

Exercising helps not only prevent but also improve your health

According to research on depression, anxiety and exercise can also be positive in mood and cause a decrease in anxiety.

Why are you asking ... how is it that PHYSICAL ACTIVITY can alleviate depression and anxiety?
It does it in the following way:

  • Free your mind of worries so you can get out of those negative thoughts that feed these two factors.
  • It helps you gain confidence. Being able to achieve goals (how to get fit can make you feel better about yourself with the physical aspect) or challenges of exercises, can stimulate self confidence.
  • Releases endorphins that generate well-being
  • It allows the possibility of socializing, meeting new people.
  • To cope with problems in a healthy way.

Doing at least 30 minutes of exercise per day 3 to 5 times per week can significantly improve the symptoms of depression or long-term anxiety, so it is important that you look for activities you enjoy doing.

  • Set reasonable goals that fit your needs and abilities.

  • Do not think of exercise as a task. If exercise is just another duty in your life that you think you can not fulfill, you will end up associating with failure.

  • Evaluate what prevents you from exercising, if you think what prevents you from being active, you can probably find an alternative solution.

  • It is important to be prepared for any obstacle that appears and not to lower your arms.

If you exercise regularly but also have symptoms of depression, you should consult your doctor or mental health professional. Keep in mind that exercise is not a substitute for therapy or medication. It's just another add-on that can help you.
