Seeking good locations for Milky Way PhotossteemCreated with Sketch.

Preparing for the Milky Way

I tend to look for good landmarks for Milky Way Photos in order to get a dramatic time-lapse with the Milky Way appearing to rise over a mountain. I usually start looking at taking Milky Way photos in March when the Milky way is more visible during night and makes for impressive shots. Making sure its a new moon and as far away from city lights as possible. The darker the sky the better chance you will have to capture the Milky Way.

Test shots

Right now is not the best time to capture the Milky Way in Arizona so often I scout out locations in order to plan future shots and time-lapses. It could really turn out to be a full time job if you let it. I like to get around three to five new locations in advance every year and plan on hitting each location for a few nights each season. The photos and time-lapse .gif are some test shots I took the other night to evaluate a location for future shots.

Magnificent stary night photo! The time-lapse is always amazing. Great work! ;)

It was close to a new moon, so it was pretty dark outside. Unfortunately not the best season for Milky Way photos

Ah! Even though, we cannot see the Milky Way this time, plenty of stars can make the dark sky look really wonderful. ;)

Many thanks

All of it can become a full time job!! Well a guilty pleasure at least!

Cool picture and timelapse! Looks like you got a shooting star/meteor or perhaps it was a plane or UFO? Also, I like how you went into detail about your preparations and workflow. I can relate! It sure is fun filming the night sky!
