Butterfly Garden in Honfleur, France - Naturospace Visit

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

While we were in France, we went to Honfleur for a day and visited Naturospace, a beautiful greenhouse with butterfly garden. We saw some very positive reviews on Tripadvisor, it wasn't too expensive to visit (€ 8,90 pp), so this looked like an interesting activity.

I think we might have picked the wrong day to visit, because the outside temperature was 32°C (90° F), so inside the greenhouse it was even hotter. The lens of my camera fogged up and most of my photographs weren't usable. Luckily I was able to get a few good shots in the first 5 or 10 minutes or so.

This butterfly garden had over 1000 butterflies flying around while you walk through the small paths. Aside from butterflies, there were also different species of birds walking and flying, they were pretty tame so you could pet them.

The butterfly garden wasn't really that big, but this meant that you literally saw butterflies everywhere. Sometimes they would even land on your shoulders. I thought it was cleverly designed, because you had the feeling that it was bigger than it actually was.

One thing we had to look out for was to not step on any birds who were also sharing the paths with us. These little guys were so tiny, that you'd barely notice them.

Throughout the garden, you had these little feeding trays, resembling flowers. They were filled with nectar, so the butterflies would land on them to feed. We still had to get lucky to get some good shots, usually the butterflies didn't stay too long in one place.

This turned out to be a very interesting visit, but sadly we couldn't stay too long inside. After 10 minutes we were both way too overheated to stay there. Since are lenses were already completely fogged up, we decided to go outside again. I still think it was worth the money we paid.

What a great adventure. Sorry to hear about the fogged up lenses. Wish I could have seen more photos. Also glad that no bird, butterfly or human was hurt during the excursion.

perfect shooting, I'm sure you're very good at photography @daan

Regards from me

The place looks lovely and that blue butterfly is gorgeous 💚 Now I know what I have to visit next time I go to France.

Lovely macro shots!! That's a shame that the lens got fogged up, but these are already very beautiful! Good capture, @daan!

This is on my to do list too.
I have invited a relative, who also likes to take pictures, to join me.
We haven't set a date yet, but looking at your images reminded me of doing that.
Great shots, I hope I will have some decent shots of my visit too.
We won't visit France but a local butterfly farm :)

Had you heard of this place before or do you want to visit a butterfly garden somewhere alse?

We'll be visiting a butterfly garden closer to home. Last time I did that was ages ago. I have been to France but didn't visit anything animal related.

Beautiful creatures they are, always great to spend time with the nature.
Thanks for sharing these beauty with us.

Very cool! We have a butterfly house in the town that I live in, but I don't know as though I have ever been there. I have visited one that is on an island north of us though. The picture of the blue and black one is awesome. Too bad more of your shots weren't usable.

If you ever have the chance, you should visit it. Would love to see how it compares to this one and will make an interesting post.

Yeah if you see that picture of the birds on that feeding tray, that's how most of them came out, but even worse.

The only aspect was the temperature, I think that in that closed environment and at 32°C, it can really be something hot! The shots you share with us look good. It is interesting how you can have full contact with any number of birds and butterflies in such a small place.

Able you can find any kind of species out there hidden!

Yeah they were all really tame, which made for a great experience.

The Butterfly Garden looks really amazing and natural the concept of the garden is good because it acts as a conservative place to rare and different species of butterfly while bringing nature and beauty closer to the people. Your photo looks clear and nice @daan
