My Top 5 and Why I Picked Them!

The following picks have been arranged in Alphabetical order only and was not ranked from 1-5. However, they are part of my top 5 picks from all Open Source -related contributions posted through @steemhunt in the past few days. If you have extra time, please do check them out!

I have provided a brief description of the products as well as relevant links and screenshots from @steemhunt and other sites. Here they are:

Caprine: Desktop app for Facebook Messenger originally posted by @superoo7 on steemhunt

Caprine is an unofficial desktop app for Facebook Messenger build on top of Electron and support cross-platform.

Why This? It's hard to imagine not having Facebook Messenger nowadays because that's what everyone else is using most of the time, so access to that is a must. Using their web versions are okay but with this open sourced app alternative, you'd have features the original one doesn't have. I especially like the dark mode.

edX: Free Online Courses From The Best Universities in the World originally posted by @josephace135 on steemhunt

EdX collaborated with the top and best universities in the world to come up with free online courses which has all the available courses every potential student or learner want to pursue.

Why This? This initiative would help out a lot of people. Education really matters in a person's life, it could make or break them most of the time.

FaceRig: Digitally embody awesome characters originally posted by @chronocrypto steemhunt.

FaceRig can be used to make videos, make comic books, gifs, create 2D or 3D avatars, broadcast, stream etc.

Why This? I've already tried this app and it's really cool. I didn't know it was open-sourced though, which will definitely add to its coolness meter for me!

Godot Engine: An Open Source Game Engine originally posted by @chrisli on steemhunt.

Godot Engine is a engine for both 2D and 3D game which can helps you boost your development process.

Why This? I've tried creating my own games using Stencyl, which is free but requires you to pay for premium if you want to publish your games for mobile. An open-sourced game engine can help out game developers who do not want or does not have the capacity to shell out enough money for game engine premiums.

Goodreads: Let you Rate a thousands of book on this app originally posted by @michealkey on steemhunt.

Open sourced application for rating books, has a wide library.

Why This? It's a bookworm must-have. Especially if you want to share your experiences or read experiences through rating books.

I hope you've enjoyed this Top 5 list of Hunting the Hunts featuring some posts/contributions inside steemhunt.com. I will strive to make this an ongoing project to support Hunting and Open Source!

I think we need more Open Sourced hunts though, cause I may run out of things to feature for this series, there are fewer entries about open source. That, or I'm not searching properly or the search function on steemhunt needs improvement.
