The Leprechaun Trap

On friday my six year old daughter got off the school bus carrying a box. I asked her what it was for and she told me it was a leprechaun trap she had made in her class maker space.

I had never thought of making such a thing when I was a kid. This thing had my daughter so excited! She kept working on it Friday night until she was happy with it. She went to bed sure she was going to catch a leprechaun. When she woke up Saturday morning she found a coin in her trap. She was sure she had almost caught a leprechaun. She figured the problem was that there was no roof on her trap so I helped her fix it up. Then she used Google to look up how to catch a leprechaun. It turns out that was a pretty popular search and she learned a lot. She baited her trap and waited.

Everytime she checked the trap the bait was gone. I'm sure our dog had nothing to do with it! She kept coming up with different ways to trick her leprechaun. In the first picture you may notice there is a paper towel roll hanging out of the box, that is the only way in. Since it sort of looks like a slide she wrote "parck" on the box. She also wrote "not a trap". She drew a rainbow and a couple of four leaf clovers to try to get him to trust the box.

We went out for awhile and she was sure there would be a leprechaun in her trap when we got home. We told her if she did catch a leprechaun she couldn't take her eyes off of it. We explained that if she even blinked it would get away because leprechauns are so fast. She said she was ready. Alas, there was no leprechaun when we returned home but all the bait was gone.

She went back to work fixing up her trap. She got me to make a sign that says "gold bank" thinking that a leprechaun would definitely want to go to a bank that has gold. She also got her uncle to draw a leprechaun for her so that her leprechaun would think the trap was a place where other leprechauns hung out.

Just before bed she re-baited her trap. I will say she seemed really motivated to catch herself a leprechaun. She woke up this morning only to find that she did not catch a leprechaun but one had definitely been around. She found a note and some coins. The note said she had almost caught the leprechaun but that he is too tricky to be caught. It also said that since she had tried so hard he was leaving her some special leprechaun coins and some regular coins so she could buy herself a treat. She really doesn't know what to think right now. On the one hand she has some money, on the other she doesn't have a leprechaun. One thing that is for certain, she is already making plans for a better trap next year!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Steemians! May your troubles be less and your blessings be more and nothing but happiness come through your door.
