New bearings, seals, o-rings installed, as well as a touched up speedometer gear. The speedometer is old school, turning directly off of the output end of the mainshaft in the transfer case. No sensors, no electronics, just the way we want this vehicle.

Various photos of the reassembly process, I installed the input shaft, planetary assembly, selector fork and rod, mainshaft, front shaft, annulus/ synchronizer, blocker ring, needle bearings, drive gear, driven gear, and chain. Overall the unit was in good shape except aging seals and a few worn bearings.

After function checking everything several times, I sealed it back up, putting the case back together. Believe it or not, there are no gaskets available for the main part of the case. It is actually stock spec. to use an applied sealant. I didnt want to 'clean up' the sealant because the bead mating the front and rear cases is so thin. Also if someone else ever has to work on or purchase this vehicle, which isnt likely, they will be able to identify the case as re-worked.

Overall I came out lucky with this case, all of the internals had minimal wear and tear other than bushings, washers, and races. I fear I will not have the same luck with the transmission.

Stay tuned!
