Danish scientists have recently caught a shark believed to be 512 years old.

That means, this shark was born before William Shakespeare. through Unilad.

This shark is believed to be the oldest vertebrate ever found.

Experts determine their age by using long sharks, which is an impressive 18ft and found it is the oldest group of 28 Greenland sharks analyzed for a study.

Greenland sharks were found in the North Atlantic Ocean by Julius Nielsen, lead author of the study from the University of Copenhagen, and a team of marine biologists studying the amazing creatures.

This shark species, which grow only about a centimeter a year, has been known to live for hundreds of years, with previous articles showing some lives up to 400 years old.

The oldest shark known to be discovered by biologists is 392 years old, but because radiocarbon dating has 95 percent certainty.

The actual age of sharks can be more resemble 392 + 120 years (512), research in this study Radiocarbon eyepiece reveals centuries of longevity in Greenland sharks say.

Previous research has concluded that this species reaches sexual maturity for about 150 years.

Greenland sharks live off the fish but they never observed hunting - in the past, they were found to have the remains of deer, horses, deer and even polar bears in their stomachs.

Their meat is considered a delicacy in Iceland, but unless it is treated first, it is also toxic - contains chemicals that when eaten give a sensation similar to feeling very drunk.

Professor Kim Praebel, who led the previous study, said sharks are 'living capsules' that can help' give light to human impacts on the oceans.

Many sharks are so old that they are around before the industrial revolution and the introduction of large scale commercial fishing.

"The longest vertebrate species on the planet have formed some populations in the Atlantic Ocean, it's important to know, so we can develop appropriate conservation measures for this important species," Professor Praebel said.

Steven Campana, a shark expert from the University of Iceland said earlier:

Fish biologists have tried to determine the age and longevity of Greenland sharks for decades, but to no avail.

Given that this shark is a top predator (king of food chains) in Arctic waters, it is almost unbelievable that we do not know whether the shark lived for 20 years, or for 1000 years.

The world's longest recorded official title of the world's longest living animal is held by Ming, an Iceland shell known as the marine quahog, which reached 507 years, writes The Guardian.

Ming will probably live longer if he is not killed.

Scientists who try to find out how old age finally end his life.
