Is Google Adsense a Good Way to Monetize My Blog? The Pro's & Con's of Monetizing Content w/ Adsense

in #blog6 years ago

Hey guys, thanks for tuning in. So later today I'm going to be posting Episode 67 of Side Hustle Tuesdays. Today's Side Hustler created a personal finance blog with a slant towards moms and she monetized her blog initially with Google Adsense.

While she did make a couple hundred bucks, later on down the road she started working directly with advertisers and sponsors, she also began using Amazon's Associates program which is Amazon's Affiliate program, along with some other CPA type affiliate programs and did very well with a program called MediaVine.

Pam, the side hustler from today's story, her experience kind of echoed mine with Adsense. It's great in the sense it's a trusted partner, it's quick and easy to setup, and is pretty passive. It's also great in that the ads it serves will relate to either the content on your page or the readers past search history so in that sense it's good as well.

The downside to Adsense however is that it's typically fairly low paying. Your paid not only per 1000 visitors which is called a CPM, but your also paid when people click the advertisers ads. That said the pay is typically pretty low unless you have mega amounts of traffic and page visits per month. For most bloggers or content creators in a very targeted niche, I feel like you can almost always do better with CPA programs where your trying to get someone to buy something or purchase something, to sign up for a service, or sometimes just for giving their e-mail. With CPA affiliate programs I can sometimes get as much as $100 per sale or per conversion where as if I was using Adsense clicks I would need literally thousands of visits and clicks to equal that amount of money.

One area I think Adsense can be effective is in less specific blogs. If your not in a very specific niche Adsense can be effective. Some examples of this could be like a prank channel on Youtube or a prank blog or maybe a celebrity gossip type blog or pop culture news tabloid type blog. These types of blogs don't have as targeted of a reader as a niche blog and therefore you may wind up doing better with Adsense than an affiliate program that only appeals to a small percentage of your readers.

In this video we discuss the pro's and con's of Adsense. It's tough to tell you how much you can expect to make but I do share some of my experiences of some past earnings for myself.

Stay tuned later for tonights episode of Side Hustle Tuesdays where you hear Pam's whole story about creating and monetizing her blog, how she started out, and some alternatives to Adsense that have helped her grow her income.

Have you used Google Adsense either on Blogs or on your Youtube Channel? What has your experience been? Drop a comment below and tell us about it.
