Rambling thoughts
So it’s an interesting set of contradictions that exist with teaching grade 6. This is pop culture related. My students come in talking about the latest horror films they’ve watched but also need me to talk them through and understand character deaths in their Avengers movie. In fairness, the MCU characters are ones that they have grown up with and that depth of connection is largely absent from their viewing of horror films. The same time that they are experiencing some really grown up attitudes and seriously confused emotions, it is important to remember that they are only 11 and 12 and starting a really rough time of life. So, have to make allowances for them playing with their childhood toys in class sometimes and go see the Pokémon movie so I know what they’re talking about when they ask if I’ve seen it on Monday morning. They’ve accepted that I won’t see the latest horror flick.
