CORRECT SPELLING

To write correctly, you must have the correct word. You must also know how to spell it correctly because good spelling is one of the marks of a good writer and its benefits are also numerous especially for secretaries, journalists, reporters and students in particular. The following example shows how bad spelling can be a hindrance to a candidate's (student's) success in an examination.

"Your letter was recieved and I am greatful for the packet of suga you sent to me last Wenesday "

Correct words: received , grateful , sugar and Wednesday.

Even though there are some rules provided for spellings, it should be admitted however that, the complexities and exceptions associated with them make the learning of good spelling a bit difficult. But the assurance is that by developing interest in reading and also becoming a fun of a very good dictionary one can easily scale the hurdles awaiting.

HOW TO ACHIEVE GOOD SPELLING

• Be determined to spell correctly
• Make a list of words you usually spell wrongly and because familiar with their correct spelling.
• Note new words in the dictionary and their spelling
• Imagine how the word is constructed
• Write the word several times. After writing, close your eyes and visualize

• Do not skip letters either out of ignorance or to write quickly and get it over with.
