Normandy: Ride to Etretat

in #blog6 years ago

Going on a whim, a bridge weekend, it's what is called taking risks ... the risk of traffic jams, restaurants crowded and rub a human tide ... but the temptation was too much strong, especially with this beautiful weather. The choice of the destination was not very complicated since I already had in mind Normandy and the world famous cliffs of the city of Etretat. Not so far from Paris, everything depends on which side we are, so it is at dawn, we went on a mop, the time of a day. A happiness on the road, almost nobody and a journey made in record time.

Once there, the beauty of the place, the blue sky and the sea air, we do not regret this little initiative. Before starting the day, a breakfast worthy of the name, is essential, before beginning the ascent of these majestic cliffs. For the incredible view, I recommend the ** Dormy House ** which offers a rather good buffet (16,50 € / person) accessible even to tourists do not not staying at the hotel.

Our morning arrival was more than rewarded because very few people in the streets, which allowed me the opportunity to make some pictures but especially to have this impression of tranquility and freedom. Of course from 10:30, it was a different story. As the tourist guide says, the weekend, the city of Etretat is as distorted by everyone. Personally, I find that a day is enough to go around (this is also what we had planned). The city center is not very interesting (although the architecture is very pretty) and relatively small. After that I'm not very objective, because a party forraine was installed (= deafening noise and lack of space).

But no matter, my goal was above all to enjoy the calm of the sea (a beautiful turquoise color), its pebble beach and the spectacle offered by these cliffs so incredibly carved naturally. Beautiful walks along the trails to admire the horizon, the bird's eye view and all its sculptures carved by the sea. Apparently, it is possible to see them more closely, by boat, but from there, we take already full the eyes.

Beware of the wind that turns out to be random and sometimes strong, carrying the few hats not maintained ... you will also see herds of cows, the golf course ... Finally, a visit not to be missed (short, but for a nice souvenir photo), the gardens of Étretat which offer a view of the Aval cliffs and the famous needle.

The cliffs of Étretat, a must visit! If you are not too far, the ideal being to stay a day and why not, prepare your picnic (that's what I did) to avoid the endless tails of restaurants. Remember to take a jacket or a little wool, because as I said, at the top of the cliffs, the wind and fresh air are also travel!
