Too Old For Hot Wheels?

It’s not too hard to believe Hot Wheels have been around for over 50 years now.

I can recall fondly having Hot Wheels as a child.
How many kids had those neat cars and track sets set-up in their bedroom or basement back in the late 60’s and 1970’s?

Unfortunately, I do not have any of my original toys.
To my knowledge, it was forgotten when my parents retired and sold my childhood home 20 years ago.

However, I still have the Hot Wheels Club catalog from 1968.
I think this was the first “club” I ever belonged to. That’s a big deal when you’re a kid!

As you can see, the cover is missing and I covered the upper right corner of the page where my mother wrote my name and address.
I think she did this because I took this pamphlet to school one day,
and she was afraid I would loose it.

Here you can see where I marked which cars I had at the time.
Boy do I wish I still had them.

And here is a photo of my favorite car of them all, the Ford Mustang Boss Hoss in the bottom right corner.
It’s still my favorite car by the way.

Once I had children, we continued to buy the toy cars and trucks.
My son collected a bin full of cars over the years.....
which has been passed down to my grandson.
It’s the first thing he runs to when he comes to visit “Nana and Papa”

Now that I have a little guy to share my interest with again,
I enjoy looking for cars and trucks when we venture out to the cities to go shopping.

Once I find a vehicle that catches my eye, I usually buy two, one for my grandson and one to put in my new collection.

It has been really fun watching how our grandson is learning as we play.
He is currently learning his colors.
What a fun way to ask him “which car is red” and so on.
The best is when he calls his Jeep, a “beep”.

I bet you can’t guess what he’s getting for Christmas.

good writeup sir keep them coming!

Oh man, I get a little misty-eyed looking at these cars. A bucket full of Hot Wheels cars will keep that little guy enthralled for hours! Pro tip: if you want to see his eyes really light up, make a "ramp" that leans against a chair for him to race the cars down on!

Happy memories here, too. My fave car was a blue Ford GT40, long lost.
Get him a roll of track, and introduce him to the joy of stairs.
