RE: Picking a losing strategy is for the left, and not for free speech..

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

From a code is law point of view I have to defend the flags, but please hear me out.

I am not talking about profits, users or anything else.

just the idea that the idea of Stake Based Mining which is what DPOS is.

Those with the most stake will decide how the platform moves forward and by design of the project that is right and in my mind perfectly fair.

Now, regarding stupid and immature... I think that about 50 times a day.

The one with mean words who hates a certain set of mean words. It's funny. It's snowflakey and it is becoming unpopular.

I realized a long time ago, Steem will never be mainstream. :) It is an interesting experiment in how people sorted by money and power get along. :) Delegated proof of stake gives them the right to rekt this place as hard as they can! :)

Dear @whatsup

I've been following you for quite some time and I noticed that your comments are always mature and valuable. So is this one.

Those with the most stake will decide how the platform moves forward and by design of the project that is right and in my mind perfectly fair.

With current donwvoting system it's very easy to "shut up" anyone. I can easily imagine mass media entering this platform, creating several powerful accounts and shutting up all unwanted voices.

So it's very easy to imagine that Steemit and all other apps based on STEEM blockchain can be ruled by few parties. And free speach will exist even less than it does on facebook or twitter or youtube.

I realized a long time ago, Steem will never be mainstream

It never will. But mainstream can easily control steemit with very little investment.

Cheers
Piotr

I've been on a few free speech sites. Nothing was taken down. They brought the lowest low lives, it became an endless site of teen girls baiting men, hidden messages regarding crime. And that is about all that was left last time I looked.

Which is the reason I like the idea of decentralized moderation, that is how I think about the flagging system we have.

I agree that ANYONE large business or even another crypto project could buy into and control the site very easily. That has also been the lesson of watching Haejin. RanchoRelaxo feeds him, he feeds starjuno, she feeds another and they use the stake to grow stake and no one can or will control their behavior.

It could be CocoCola, it could be a political party or government. It would be very easy to buy in and control steem, use the sp to control witnesses... Easy Peasy. :)

In the meantime, I am going to do what I can to contribute and earn some crypto. This is the first round of crypto or maybe the second. Very few of these projects will be around in 10 years.

Dear @whatsup

thank you for taking the time to reply to me. I love your mature comment.

Very true. Do you know any project who could potentially challenge STEEM and Steemit? Im sure we will have better projects at some point.

I've been watching the market and a funny thing, being decentralized is sort of weakness if you are building a utility token. (one that does something more than being a currency)

At this time it is my opinion steem/steemit is still a great place for content creators to earn more than they would earn anywhere else. People lose sight of this because they can't see past the unfairness. While I don't deny it is unfair... The mature realize that it is still a great deal for content creators.

As far as challenging Steem I guess I would have to ask .. On what level? There are tokens that have retained their value better. However, have they provided 8.5% in "not interest" for their stake holders? Do they allow end-users to allocate the new inflationary tokens? Do they provide an easy platform for learning and earning?

There is nothing like steem for those entering the crypto markets without technical skills.

On the other hand in a bull market, it remains to be seen how well we will keep up with our competition.

That is very interesting point of view @whatsup. Thank you for sharing.

Wonder why would you think so? Very curious.

On level that could potentially attract current Steemit users and STEEM holders to sell their resources and change platform.

I just discovered Publish0x today and I was told that it may be a huge competition. Have you ever heard?

Friend of mine @danielwrites just published good review about this project lately. Worth checking out: https://steemit.com/blockchain/@danielwrites/earn-crypto-by-publishing-and-reading-articles-on-publishox

Publish0x might hold appeal for those who consider themselves to be actual content creators. It doesn't appeal to me because I don't want my credentials checked not do I want to check others. I consider that to be a centralized source of information. Very suspect to only getting/hearing approved points of view on most mainstream projects. I can't get plastic articles anywhere.

Now, if I were a great writer I might think about that differently, but as you can tell... I am not.

The reason I think decentralized projects with a mission are a disadvantage is ... Look around it is like herding cats. You need a vision and at least a few people to ensure the project is on course.

Thank you again for another amazing comment @whatsup

ps. Publish0x is such an awful name. not catchy at all.

Have a great weekend
Piotr
