Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, 93, succeeded in what seemed to be an impossible task to win the people's big support to break the grip of BN's power before today's historic event, the longest reigning political party.

Dr Mahahir is expected to take his oath of office as the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia . Dr Mahathir was the fourth Prime Minister and was the same person who led BN's success in the five-year general election from 1982 to 1999.

It is clear that the overwhelming majority of BN's defeat has also been helped by the massive influence of social media utilized by the opposition by raising the rising cost of living that impacts everyone's spending ability after Najib introduced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at 6 per cent in 2014 .

The popularity of BN has diminished over the last few years following the failure of 1MDB to haunt Najib coupled with the financial difficulties in Felda which affected oil palm smallholders and the latest controversial laws such as the Inappropriate Antitrust Act which were hastily passed in Parliament just before the dissolution of April 7th.

Will Prime Minister Dr Mahathir have pledged as an undertaking in the PH election manifesto to abolish the GST if the party is in power and the same fate awaits the Law against Corruption.

In a short time, only a few days before Malaysians voted for their government for the next five years, UMNO, the BN's backbone party, fired party-leading veterans Tun Daim Zainuddin and Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz for campaigning to support Dr Mahathir and PH .
