Verbal communication is incomplete without gestures and facial expressions. You may look like a robot without gestures and expressions. The only situation when you may not need facial expression is the time when you're talking to yourself or the pet. You will definitely need non-verbal communication tactics in all fields of life.

The importance of non-verbal communication in the business world can't be ignored. Your body language includes your gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, touching, handshakes, and more. Most people lack one important thing and that's eye contact.

Your body language plays a vital role when you're unable to explain something verbally but you become able to explain through your gestures and facial expressions. By using body language, you'll reduce the chances of boredom in the presentation because no one likes to listen to a robot. In this article, we'll discuss a few important reasons why body language is so important.

1 - Body Language Makes You Look Confident

Imagine that you're doing a presentation and the only method of communication that you're using is verbal. You're standing in front of others, running your mouth. and delivering the message with "mmm" and "aaa." During your presentation, your audience is feeling extremely bored.

People feel bored because they are not sure if you're even confident in whatever you're saying. Lack of gestures and facial expressions make you suspicious. The only solution is to use your gestures, facial expressions, and other body language aspects to reduce the possibility of your audience getting bored. Make sure that your body language connects with what you're saying.

2 - Body Language Makes You Feel At Ease

More importantly, you can put yourself at ease during the presentation if you start using the proper body language. Sure, how your audience perceives and decodes your speech is important to you, but making sure that you're at ease during the presentation is more important.

Body language helps you explain more than half of the matter through gestures and expressions. There are some things that can't be well explained with only verbal communication. In short, body language makes you feel confident, relaxed and when you're at ease, you become able to think even more during the delivery of a speech.

3 - Body Language Helps Audience To Decode Your Message Properly

Body language is a reflection of how you're feeling. It all comes down to how confident you are in your particular stance. When you're at ease and confident enough, your gestures will automatically come to your face and you'll end up using your body language to explain even better.

When something is explained properly, there's a very low probability that audience would decode the message wrongly. In other words, by using body language, you're helping your audience to decode your message properly and understand your viewpoint easily. Why not? According to Albert Mehrabian, body language accounts for 55% of your overall message.

If you're not accustomed to using your body language, start practicing today or else you'll miss many opportunities. Don't regret not practicing it earlier.

Such a great post! I think it is a good exercise for people to practice looking confident! :) Feeling confident and looking confident go hand in hand! I have had a few clients practice looking confident even if they didn't feel that way. After a few weeks of making mental note of how they were carrying themselves they began to feel better about themselves!

Stand up taller, smile more and look people in the eye while talking to them. These may seem like simple changes to body language but it can make all the difference!

Feel good on the inside and you will look good on the outside :) Trick your body if you have to and before you know it your body position will change and so will the way you view yourself! :)

I think this is an awesome post! :)

Body goes a long way in making communication effective. This is because people take note of our body language and facial gestures unconsciously, it goes a long way in explaining our statement.

Great point! :)

Actions speak louder than words for sure! :)
