Hello Steemit, how are you? Hopefully everyone is always in good condition, healthy and more fortune. Aamiin.

This time I want to write a little about the negative thoughts that often arise in our lives. Hopefully with a little writing from me, can increase knowledge for all of us, and be useful for our lives.

Have you ever complained or protested people who always advised you to always think positive? Maybe this sounds like your protest, "Being unfortunate, how come, told to be grateful!" Or, "The person being tyrannized is told to be kind? How is it?"

Why did you protest? Because you do not believe that only with positive thoughts, then all problems will be fine.

Yup! I agree with you. In fact, changing the situation that is already bad is not as easy as turning your palm, not as easy as thanksgiving, patience, or kindness.

When we are sick, of course it is not just thanksgiving or just being kind to God that will heal us. Our recovery is also influenced by medications from doctors or medical measures such as surgery.

However, the mind still has a huge share in our lives. The mind influences our feelings, impressions, and attitudes toward an event.

When you take part in a discussion on campus, for example, where in the discussion, you want to refute the arguments against your discussion. If you think that your refutation is a silly rebuttal, then just before you lift your index finger to file a rebuttal, there will undoubtedly be a feeling of nervousness within you.

Your heart rate will increase and cold sweat will come out. And, if you are determined to lift your index finger and reveal your objection, your voice will stammer because of nervousness.

The mind also influences your actions in the following context: You are alone at home; The day is very late. But, you are still working on college assignments. Suddenly, there was a bang on the door outside.

If you think the voice is the voice of someone who wants to sneak in your house, you will also prepare to fight the smoker. However, if you think that the sound is only a cat's voice, you will be calm too.

Different thoughts will produce different attitudes, feelings, emotions, and actions.

Well, this paper is intended to realign the understanding of the role of thought in our lives. Do not deny the mind has a very large role in our lives. However, this does not mean that only positive thinking helps us face life's problems. According to experts, negative thoughts also contribute to helping solve the problems of our lives.

Who Are We?

Before discussing the role of the mind for our lives, I will first review how we are formed in such a way as to become what we are now.

To begin with, let's answer the following question: Who or what is most influential to you? Are the people around you? Or, what experiences did you go through?

Hmmm, if we trace, there are at least 4 factors that shape who we are. What are the 4 factors? They are experiences, feelings, emotions, and belief systems.

Experience

The journey of human life is always full of experience. Experience arises because of events. When none of the events occur, there will be no experience that can be felt by humans.

But, has there ever been a stop in this world? The answer, no! As long as time continues, events will continue to occur.

Thus, it can be concluded that as long as time continues, humans will continue through life experiences.

Life experience not only includes events that are experienced, but also events that are seen and heard.

When we watch culinary programs on television, that means we have experience about how to cook certain dishes, as the program taught us. When we hear or read a detective story, we have the experience of investigating a crime according to what the book teaches us.

Feelings, Emotions, and Thoughts

Events that occur, which occur or are felt by humans make him feel a certain feeling, have certain emotions, think, and have a certain impression on the event.

For example, you sit under a mango tree. When you sit relaxed, suddenly a mango falls right in your head. Because of that event, your head hurts. And, because of illness, the thought arises in your mind that sitting under a mango tree is a bad idea because mango can fall and hit your head at any time. Finally, because of that thought, you also look for another place, which is safer to take shelter.

Well, looking for another place is one form of action taken in reaction to the event you are experiencing (falling mangoes).

System Trust

In its development, thoughts that arise as a reaction in the face of an event transformed into a belief system.

Here, the position of the belief system is the parent of various thoughts and perceptions.

The belief system is the life conclusions obtained from the events we experience, as well as the events experienced by our ancestors.

In the course of his life, our ancestors experienced various events that led them to conclude these events with various conclusions. Furthermore, the conclusions were taught to the next generation from generation to generation, until finally it became a culture.

In turn, this culture becomes the principle and the handle of life. As a principle and handle of life, it (culture) controls our thoughts, perceptions and actions. All our perceptions, thoughts, feelings and actions are always based on that culture.

As the human population grows, the cultures created by the belief system become beliefs (religion), ideology, philosophy, education, and science.

So, the belief system (which controls human thoughts, perceptions, feelings, and actions) has a variety of different forms. He can manifest religion; It can also be an ideology; He can also be in the form of philosophy, education, moral teaching, or even science.

Whatever the form, for sure, the belief system has power over us. He controls our lives. He shapes who we are.

So, what is the form of control of our belief system? It (the belief system) determines our thoughts, perceptions, feelings, and actions. When we believe (have a belief system) that justice is important, then our actions will be in accordance with that belief. We will do justice, as the belief system teaches us. If others do unfairly to us, there will be feelings of anger and disappointment within us.

From the description above, we can conclude that who we are is shaped by the events we experience, as well as the belief system that we embrace.

Effect of "negative" thoughts on us

As I explained, who we are is determined and influenced by the events we experience, as well as our belief system.

However, sometimes, trust systems do not take part; Only our natural thoughts influence our actions in responding to an event.

Now, in responding to events that occur, both natural thoughts and belief systems sometimes lead us to wrong or destructive actions.

When we are under the control of our natural mind, destructive actions occur when we interpret events incorrectly; Our perception of certain events is inaccurate. Likewise when we are under the control of the belief system. Destructive action occurs when the belief system leads us to interpret the event incorrectly or inaccurately.

For example, you are alone at home; The day is very late. However, you are still working on college assignments. Suddenly, there was a bang on the door outside.

If you think the voice is the voice of someone who wants to sneak in your house, you will also prepare to fight the smoker. However, if you think that the sound is only a cat's voice, you will be calm too.

What if it turns out that the noise actually happened because someone was going to sneak into your house? If you think positively or think that the sound is a cat's voice, then you don't know that you are in danger.

In the example above, judging that the sound is a cat's voice is an inaccurate assessment / perception, which leads us to destructive actions (allowing ourselves to be harmed by people).

Another example, when you are on campus, a staff reprimands you because he thinks you made a mistake. If you think that mistakes are entirely your responsibility (you take it for granted that you are wrong, which means you think positively of staff who think you are wrong), then there is no reason for you to dodge. There is no choice for you but to receive punishment from him if indeed he sentenced you.

However, if you think that mistake is not entirely your fault (you think that the staff has accused you, which means you have negative thoughts about the staff), then you can look for reasons to circumvent the sentence imposed on you.

In the two examples above, looking at thoughts / perceptions according to negative and positive glasses does not help.

Instead, we can view these perceptions in an accurate and inaccurate perspective.

Sometimes, thoughts / perceptions that we think are negative and destructive are precisely accurate thinking. Conversely, thoughts / perceptions that we think are positive and constructive are not accurate according to the context of the events we experience. In fact, often in responding to an event, accurate thinking is needed, whether the thought seems negative or even seems positive.

In the case of people with depression, positive thinking about others often makes the sufferer even more depressed. For example, he thought that other people were smart, passionate about life, had many friends, and so on. Don't those thoughts seem positive? However, for the sufferer of depression, thoughts like this can have a negative impact when he compares himself (which he views negatively) with others (which he views positively).

So, sometimes, we need to think "negative" and sometimes we also need to think "positive". All depends on the context of the events we experience.

What we need to pay attention to, when facing a problem, examine the problem carefully. Don't be too careless to judge the event positively or negatively. However, it is safest to think accurately.

Indeed, to get accurate conclusions in addressing a problem is not an easy matter. But, believe that sometimes this is far more helpful than just evaluating it positively or negatively (although sometimes positive thinking helps us).
