Forsythia Tree: A Young Tree with an Unusual Appetite [Bonsai]

This happy little tree is a Forsythia. Enjoy photos of this tree to find out what sort of bonsai secrets I've unlocked today.

The most unique feature of this tree is this knobulous Buddha Belly is had formed near the base of the tree.

Perhaps it is a deformity of the tree. A smaller growth has appeared on the low branch on the left. It appears that these thickened areas must have formed around a knot where an old branch was pruned off.

Being so low to the ground surface level, without any branches obstructing them, these oddball shapes will surely become a permanently visible feature of the tree.

Do you think rubbing it will give good luck?

Despite its abnormalities, I am quite happy with the natural ramification of this tree. Natural I say, although looking at my past articles, I can see I have actually trained it to look natural in this way.

I has formed a perfect Y split of branches at every inter-node. Inter-nodes are generally getting smaller and smaller as branches divide into finer branches at the ends.

In another few years if it continues to develop in this way, we might be able to expect some smaller leaves. Already it has smaller leaves than it did two years ago.

Upon examination of this old knot in the tree from the reverse view, I noticed a crack in the wood. The old wood here is likely drying out. Eventually the rainwater will cause it to decay and rot. Perhaps one day it will leave a small cave.

Winnie the Pooh adventures through The Hundred Acre Woods where nearly every tree had a handy hole in the middle where he could hide his pots of honey.

When this tree is in full bloom, it produces brilliant yellow stars which attracts honeybees in early spring.

Perhaps this tree will become my very own living representation of Pooh's Corner. Until then, I wonder if the honeybees might bee hiding their honey in the belly of this fattened tree.
