I need to expand on this review and focus more on the title. Changing it to Vengeance is not a bad thing, but casting an older man as the cop is totally a bad thing, and it messes with the "A Love Story" vibe. A 12-yr-old girl, a father figure, a platonic infatuation - you just have to read the novella, and get it, and it seems to me (based on the reviews I've read) that most readers don't get it. Ah, JCO! "Use a feather, not a hammer," writers are told, but too many readers need the hammer.
