Book News of the Day – Novelist who wrote about ‘How to Murder Your Husband’ charged with murdering her husband

in #books6 years ago

Here's one for ya! Nancy Crampton Brophy is a Portland-based romance novelist, penning the type of book which often featured bare-chested men on the cover and whose illicit relationships were always wrong but "never felt so right." You get the picture. But there were also violent undertones to her novels. In The Wrong Cop, the plot involved a woman who “spent every day of her marriage fantasizing about killing” her husband. In The Wrong Husband, a woman tried to flee an abusive husband by faking her death. And in How to Murder Your Husband, an essay, Crampton Brophy wrote about how to get away with it and stated "As a romantic suspense writer, I spend a lot of time thinking about murder and, consequently, about police procedure," the post read. "After all, if the murder is supposed to set me free, I certainly don't want to spend any time in jail. And let me say clearly for the record, I don't like jumpsuits and orange isn't my color."

Well, it turns out she followed a lot of her own advice, except for the getting away with it part. She was arrested last week on charges of murdering her husband with a gun and unlawful use of a weapon. Here's the beautiful mug of Crampton Brophy:

Life imitates art, eh? Here's a link to the NPR article about the case: https://www.npr.org/2018/09/12/647113406/novelist-who-penned-how-to-murder-your-husband-essay-charged-with-husband-s-murd

Very interesting. I wonder how she killed her husband, whether it was the same way like what she described in the novel.

That is fascinating, implying the hunter has just become the hunted
