RE: How to be Safe when Boondocking

in #boondocking5 years ago

In the long distance Motorcycle community there is another term: Stealth Camping. In late, out early, keep moving. I've spent the night within half a mile of whatever road a lot of times. :) I've been caught by farmers twice. Both times they looked at my site and how clean it was and said they didn't mind at all. Both times it was before sun up that I was caught :)

I do a fair amount of 'dispersal camping' in NFS and BLM settings.

Thanks for your insight. I do a lot of stealth camping as well. My van is a plain jane on the outside, but inside, it's built out nice and comfortable. Have done the motorcycle thing as well. Loved it, but a shoulder injury stopped my motorcycle riding.

Man. Sorry about the shoulder.

One of my best buddies has a well used Strider van. He built a ramp to run his MC in (on one side). He's built a cabinet/counter top and a pretty darn cool folding bed w/memory foam mattress. He bums all over the US in that set up. It's really slick and cool.

Oh. Another tip. He's a member of Planet Fitness ($10 per month) and is always welcome to the wi fi and a parking lot to sleep in. They are REALLY cool about it! And they have showers! You just have to pretend to work out!

Yes, I do that as well, also have membership in Anytime Fitness. They are open 24/7 and can be found in most towns and cities around the USA and where Planet Fitness does not have facilities. With the 2, have never not been able to find a nice shower and parking.
