RE: Canelo wins GGG rematch by majority decision. Controversy... what controversy? My scorecard

in #boxing6 years ago

Hey @nanzo-scoop, i found myself firmly in the group of people who wanted triple GGG to win because of the drug scandal, but as much as i cheered for him, I just couldn't find my way to scoring in his favour. I always try to put any bias I have aside and score the fight fairly.

My score card was almost identical to yours, bar the the fact that i gave Canelo the 8th round and gave GGG the last round, but it was the same scoreline. Some of the rounds were so close that you could argue for either fighter, but all in all I think that Canelo had more rounds that were clearly his.

The pundits in the studio had mixed scorelines, being unable to decide clearly who won which rounds, Haye had it for Canelo, Richie had it for GGG, and good old Buncy had it a draw, so i can't understand the witch hunt and cries of a robbery.

The first fight fight was a very close affair as well, and i have seen worse decisions go completely unchallenged, my issue was not with the draw or even a close decision in favour of Canelo, but by the margin in which Adeladie Byrd scored the fight. De la hoya has become a very hated man in boxing since his retirement and his fighters seem to be in the crossfire whenever they fight, add to this the fact that Canelo's drug tests came up dirty and I think people got blinded by bias and in the court of public opinion decided subconsciously to score the fight against Saul before it even started.

Hopefully history can put aside the black cloud of controversy that has surrounded both fights and remember them for what they really were. They were good entertaining fights which showcased the class, skill and heart of both men, lets hope both fighters can sign on and give the fans what they really want,... a trilogy.
