I hope the Queen's reign serves as a proper finish to the practice of monarchy.

I have no use for monarchy, but I was fond of the Queen, mostly.

The British empire was a global horror, and the world is probably better off without even this vestigial monarchy. But how many of us will be able to say that so much was asked of us in a lifetime and we rose to absolutely every occasion?

Just an extraordinary human being.

Worth pointing out that the people that are celebrating her death because they don't distinguish her from the symbolic and institutional role that she played and performed would actually make her very happy. She probably would very much dislike the idea of having people react to her death merely as an individual person as opposed to reacting to her death as the death of a Queen.

People celebrating her death because they hate the monarchy and everything it stood for would be an affirmation that she performed her duty well.
