Introduction - This Blog's Purpose

in #budget7 years ago (edited)

This blog serves to showcase the collection of knives I have  obtained throughout the years, and to give my thoughts on them. This  blog will feature all kinds of knives, regardless of origin or design as  well as discussions centering around the current meta of knife  production with regards to you, the consumer.

Budget Friendly
My  focus is primarily on budget knives. My goal is to highlight the knives  that are of great value for the consumer without compromising too much  on quality. To someone new to the knife scene, there are simply too many  knives out there to make an informed choice, and hopefully, this blog  will help shed light and guide you towards making informed decisions  when it comes to knife purchases.

Good Design Versus Bad Design
If  you had to deal with either up-down blade play or blade rub, which  would it be? Why not pick neither? Life does not need to be this way.  You do not have to pay ridiculous prices to get knives with good blade  alignment and fit and finish.

Prioritize Characteristics Over Others
Some  characteristics might be important to you, and some might not be; it  depends on the knife and what you are going to use it for.

For  a defensive knife, the edge retention isn't as important as rust  resistance especially if you are going to carry that knife with you  every day where it will be exposed to the elements regularly. It does  not need to retain that edge a long time; it only needs to last that one  encounter. It also needs to be sharp when you need it most, and a  rusted out knife is no good.

For an every day carry  (EDC) knife, specifically geared for hard use, edge retention will be  such a priority that a softer steel simply will not fit the bill.

For  a dedicated food knife, avoid coated blades. The coatings eventually  wear off as all coatings do and then you are eating the coating. Not  good. I would also recommend that you only use this knife for food.

Conclusion
Hopefully,  this blog will enlighten those who read it. And over time, we will see  less people paying too much for blades and then being disappointed over  their purchases, especially when their serrations chip out over 5 light  cuts at work.
