BUSINESS 101: FUN FACTS

I live in Nigeria, and from the lot I have seen a 9-5 doesn't cut it. This is the hard truth.

Salaries don't cut it anymore,
Entrepreneurship does.
I don't want to preach I just want to share the little knowledge I have from the books I read.

I have never ventured into the business niche on steemit before now. So here is my short.

What is Business :

Before I open the dictionary, let me say business is anything you do or engage that generates income for you.

Let's see what the dictionary has to say.

Business according to the Oxford dictionary is: a specific commercial establishment or enterprise.

It also says, it's a person's occupation or trade.

So, starting up a business, what does it entail. Well according to Richard Branson in his book like a virgin, he citied five secret of setting up and growing a business and that is what I want to talk about today.

1. You have to enjoy it: Growing a business involves passion, love, the spirit of nurture. A business is like an extension of you, it is your idea that is been crafted by you.
   In other to do this, to be able to grow your business, it must be a business you love, it must be something you have passion for. It takes hard work and dedication, so do not venture into something you don't enjoy or love to the point that you can keep doing it even if the profits doesn't start rolling in immediately.

2. Be innovative and creative :
   Think outside the box, you are not the first person doing whatever business you are into, but redefine your business.
   Every venture has a specific needs it is designed for, find that need and meet that need in a costume effective way.

3. Pride of Association : to quote Branson, 'your people, your product '. The biggest assets in any business venture are the people associated with the business.
   What is your attitude towards your costumers? What is your attitude towards the growth of your business? If it is a large business, what is the attitude of your staff members? When people are proud to be associated with you and your business, that is a very good means if generating a special level of advocacy and this sets you and your business aside.

4: lead by listening : To have a great business enterprise, you must be calm and listen to your customers and workers alike.
You have to get out of your comfort zone, listen to people, learn from them and develop.
No one has a monopoly on good ideas, so you have to listen and learn and grow.

5: Be visible : you have to be involved in the day to day running of your business, do not get caught up with the irrelevant things of life. Your business is your baby, nurture it, invest your time and watch wonders happen.

Entrepreneurship is not all rosy, it has its ups and down, just remember that majority of new businesses do not make it pass the starting phase, and that the greatest lessons are learnt from failures.

If you try and fail, pick yourself up and try again.
