RE: StumbleUpon calls it quits after 16 years

in #business6 years ago

I met some really cool people through stumbleupon and recently we've had a reunion in Facebook. Stumbleupon was way way better than these later evolutions. If only they didnt digress and minimalize so much. I loved it when it was more pro blogger like steemit and Steepshot in one spot as well as having the stumbling component. We would teach each other how to code to make our blogs personal. Discovering new sites or being sent stumbles from friends felt more connected than Pinterest and Facebook. Plus there was a way to have a music player and playlist for those that wanted to spend time at ones profile and spend time reading posts and stumble recommendations. There were other features like groups and chat rooms as well. What stumbleupon once was was better than Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Reddit put together. I would love it if steemit can come close to the stumbleupon many enjoyed and now miss.

Oh I agree stumbleupon was a great platform and was more about community, sharing and exploring together in this great big thing we call the internet and having fun and exploring your interested and then these other platforms care along and dumbed down the concept and people took to it and then it was all about making money and stumbleupon couldn’t decided should it stick to this or try to pivot into something else!

I agree I’d like steemit to absorb some of the concepts of stumbleupon but sadly I don’t think it will! It’s already begun to take on a path of its own with its niche user base looking at it under rose coloured glasses and having no issue with it just talking it up and since I’ve been using it there has been little done to it, all deploys have focused on the reward system which is still something and will always be something people complain about! But who knows I could be wrong
