This is a must read if you are from the Philippines or for any individual that happens to own a Credit Card from the bank of BDO.

There is an email circulating around the internet that pretends to be a legit email coming from BDO.

I have received the email at exactly 1:41 a.m. Philippine local time. Below are the screenshots of the email that I received.

Note:

I already reported this to BDO on their Facebook page and in their official customer service e-mail. Be careful in clicking anything inside in every email that you receive. Always read, do not just click.

The sender of the email is [email protected]. The domain bdo.com is not the real domain name of BDO bank. The real domain of BDO is bdo.com.ph

Below are the succeeding screenshots of the email

If you just look at the contact numbers and the disclaimer you will be fooled. In the screenshot below, if you hover you mouse above the huge button at the center you will see the real link the button contains. The real link is highlighted in a red rectangle.

How to avoid being Scammed

First and foremost, check the sender, particularly the email address of the sender. Once you got the email of the sender check it if the sender is from the individual, institution, or office that represents the email.

If there are any button or link inside the email hover your mouse above them and the real link will appear at the bottom left corner of your screen if you are using Yahoo! email (see the previous screenshot).

If you saw a different link that is different from the email represents, it's a phishing/scam link/email. DELETE it right away, or you can forward the email to the proper authority.

Be careful and be safe. Malicious actors are everywhere. You will never know, they could be the one sitting beside you at a coffee shop, restaurant, bar, bus and even the one the you share an Uber ride. Sometimes they wear corporate attires.

I hope this article of mine helps you in preventing phishing and scams in the future.
