Survival Guide-Part 2-Get strong

in #busy6 years ago

UNITY IS STRENGTH, BUT SOMETIMES IT IS NOT ENOUGH.
In the previous part of the guide we saw the best options for selecting how to choose a site.
Once elected, we will have to supply ourselves with food and water as much as we can to resist for a while the attacks of people who have nothing to lose, but we must not neglect our strength.
We must calculate that what they may plunder from us is less than the cost of attacking us.
If we start out with nothing we can suffer some sporadic attack, but if we have a fully functioning community (according to the previous guide we calculated a community that could supply about 1000/1200 people) our fort will become very greedy so that even 1000 people can join us to take what we have.
Going back to the previous post I proposed the options of a single-family option in a remote location or a community of many people. Taking into account the option of the single-family home, the way to become strong is to be plagued with traps, if possible deadly, a perimeter large enough to be able to cultivate, have some animals, a house and a warehouse and workshop, avoiding to expand it too much, because the more we expand it, the more it will cost us to maintain so many traps.
However, I am still betting on a large community in a block of flats, as we will be able to protect it much better, as I will explain later.

CLOSE THE FIRST FLOOR
For our fortress to be impregnable (or at least unprofitable to attack), the first thing we must do is block all the doors and windows on the ground floor, first floor and second floor, except for an access through which we can enter and leave if necessary.
The ideal is to cover them with at least half a metre of concrete to lose as little space as possible, but given the complication of getting so much concrete, alternative means would have to be found.
Non-flammable materials should be chosen, as anyone could cause a fire to cause us to leave.
Bricklaying may seem safe, but apart from being difficult to achieve, it would be easy to make room for brute force.
Materials such as earth would have to be put in huge amounts of it so that it would not be profitable to dig inwards.
My recommendation would be to fill them with rocks or debris, with the difficulty and work that will be required to bring them will be very easy to maintain, expand and very difficult to cross.

GET READY TO GROW
The next resource we must carry is land. We will need huge amounts of land to cultivate enough for 1000 people, but once fortified we must make the possible exits to look for land. As soon as you put the first square meter in, someone should take care of starting to cultivate and expand as you bring more.
At this point we will have to think about how to get beams, be they made of wood or steel, so that our buildings can support the weight, depending on whether there are garages under the building or the ground floor is at level 0.
Having the opinion of an architect could be key, although a miner would certainly know how to do so.

GET WATER AND WATER TANKS
We must not forget our other basic need, which we must meet as best we can in the beginning. Collect as many bottles, carafes and tanks as you can get, if possible full, but do not discard taking the empty ones to fill them.
Once water has been obtained for a reasonable period of time, we must start digging a well deep enough to supply the community and the crops.
To do this, you must get enough bricks to dig a couple of metres, put the bricks in to secure the walls and start digging little by little, putting bricks in bricks as you open the hole so that the ones that have already been put down don't come down.
You don't need cement or anything else to glue them together, because doing so will hold them together.

PUT UP LOOCKOUTS
One or two people on each side of the building will be enough. Try to keep them as high as possible under cover of weapons and if they are separate buildings create paths through the walls or walkways on the inside of the building so that in case of an attack from one side everyone can go quickly to defend. Don't let the lookouts on the other flanks leave their post.

GET OR MAKE DEFENSE WEAPONS
As easy as accumulating rocks in the upper floors will serve as a defense weapon in the first cycle of our fortress.
Elsewhere in my guide I will teach how to make gunpowder and other weapons that may be of interest to the defense.
