En 1904, Christian Hulsmeyer, ingeniero alemán, invento el radar, pero entonces nadie se intereso en el y solo hacia 1930, científicos británicos, franceses, alemanes, y norteamericanos lo reinventaron.

Esta aplicación posterior al radio utiliza señales de radio para localizar objetos distantes, como barcos o aviones. Las ondas radiales rebotan contra los objetos y su imagen se capta a través de una pantalla fluorescente.
