The ordinary strangler - An original story part 5

in #busy5 years ago

As the man lifted his gun to shoot Peter, Peter found the courage of a lion and stepped forward to kick the gun out of his hands. He could feel the adrenaline pumping and it was a rush that he never felt before. The man turned around to pick up the gun, but Peter was faster, and he kicked the gun away.

The man was furious, but Peter was not about to go down without a fight. Peter punched him first, and then grabbed him around his neck. Peter started to strangle him, and he could feel all the build up anger and frustration flow out of him. The man kicked and he could see that the man’s face was turning red, but it was as if Peter’s brain just switched off. He didn’t let go until the man stopped kicking and when he finally did, the man fell lifeless on the ground.

Peter looked around to see if anybody saw them. He couldn’t see anyone, but there was still a chance that someone might have. He climbed back into his car and lit a cigarette. His whole body was shaking, and the cigarette relaxed him a little, but he could still feel the adrenalin pumping through his veins and for some extraordinary reason he didn’t go into panic mode. He felt rather exhilarated and for the first time in years he felt utterly alive. The rush went on for several minutes and the feeling was indescribable.

His phone rang, but he ignored the call. He finished the cigarette and climbed out of the car.  He scanned the area again but couldn’t see anyone in the near vicinity. Perhaps no one saw him.

He knew he could get away with this as self defense and he had the broken window as proof but somehow, he felt as if he did humanity a favor to get rid of this guy.

Peter stood staring at the man in disbelief and couldn’t believe that he had literally just strangled him. He checked for a pulse but there was no sign of life. Various scenarios rushed through his mind. This could wreck his perfect life in minutes, and he didn’t want to be associated with any of this. He had no other choice but to keep quiet and walk away scot-free.

He picked up his phone and switched on his GPS. He found their exact location but before dialing 911, he turned off his identification on his phone. He gave the police the exact location and told them that he was driving past when he saw the body lying there.

Instead of just driving away, Peter picked up the weapon and put it in his trunk under the spare wheel.

His phone rang again, and he snapped back to reality.  It was Sylvia and she sounded quite anxious. He assured her that he was fine and that he was on his way back home.  He just had one more stop to make and then he would be all hers.

Peter doubted himself the second he put the phone down, the right thing to do would be to wait for the police, but his inner voice kept telling him to just drive away.

This experience was something that he would never be able to talk about to anyone in his life, and he silently wondered if he could really get away with this, but he was willing to take that chance.

He drove away without looking back. His mind went blank, and he had no remorse whatsoever.  Peter whistled his favorite tune as he drove back to town.

Peter did not fully realize this yet, but this experience had changed his life forever.
