Magura's young farmer Didar has shown tremendous success in producing watermelon watermelon using environmentallyMatchingy 'Malching System'. Generally, watermelon yields once a year. However, Didar has shown that watermelon can be produced more than once in any of the year.

He came to know about this method first through the Internet and he contacted Magura Agriculture Extension Directorate. Then they encouraged Didar to produce watermelon in this method.
Sister and Agriculture Department sources said that in the conventional method, the seeds of watermelon are directly planted in the soil. But according to the mulching method, planted on the mulching paper, it is planted in germinated seeds. In this method, a seed bed was first constructed with mulching polythene. Then the seeds of watermelon were placed there. Now after harvesting the seeds of mulching paper, it is replaced in the mache. Since the seeds are wrapped with polythene, no worm-insect can attack. As a result, it is not necessary to use pesticides. For the same reason the harmful sunlight can not even enter it. In normal manner, the rains from the seed bed or the fields are washed in the rainy season. There is no possibility that it is wrapped with mulching paper.

Didar said, "In this new method, the trees grow up to one and a half times faster than the usual method."

He said, 'This year I have planted watermelon only five percent of the land. Within 40 days my land has 100 watermelons, which is very tasty. Generally, our country is sold as watermelon peas. If a watermelon weighs 7/8 kg, then it is sold at a price of more than 200 rupees, that is, the average price is 25 rupees per kg. Not as watermelon pies produced in the 'mulching' method, the price is slightly higher as it is sold at kg rates. We hope that a watermelon weighing about one and a half kilograms will be sold at Tk 50 per kg. '

He said that within the next month, I can make the melon of my field market. As it can be cultivated for 12 months, I can start planting watermelon immediately after this melon is gone. Because of the excessive amount of watermelon during the season, farmers simply do not get the right prices of watermelon. Since it is possible to cultivate this method anytime, I think it is possible to earn millions of rupees annually from this land.
Didar said that six more farmers of his area were starting to cultivate watermelon in the Malching system.

District Agriculture Extension Directorate Nikunja Kumar Saha said, "Less than 50 percent of fertilizers and insecticides in this method less than the conventional method, which is environmentally friendly. In the conventional method, irrigation is done on 5/6 fields, where there is only enough to irrigate twice in this method. Although this is the first time planting melon in mulching method in Bangladesh, this is the first time in Magura it was cultivated.
