Alien vs Predator: Requiem.steemCreated with Sketch.

Alien vs. Predator Requiem is widely considered to be the worst Alien franchise movie, and with good reason.

It just got a lot of things wrong.

Let's take a look at a few of these things.

Alien vs. Predator: Requiem.

I never saw this movie in the theater. When I did first learn of it, I tried to watch it on my computer.

It was so dark that I couldn't figure out what was going on.

Years later I tried watching it on HDTV. Still too dark to be enjoyable.

Finally, quite a few years after its release, I was able to see what it was all about by using a high quality TV.

The sad thing about Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem is that it had a lot of good things going for it that it screwed up completely.

This movie has no character development, which is a shame because there are a lot of good characters to work with. I have to imagine that the scriptwriter was probably pretty pissed.

I have an image in my mind of him making these great characters that do not get used in the way that he anticipated.

What if the bully becomes a hero? Nope. Kill him off right away.

What if the cheerleader falls in love with.... Nope. kill her right away.

What about a love interest with....No, no... kill him.

What about the guy and his son hunting and.... I said kill them all right away. Nobody needs to know who these people are. As soon as their identities are revealed, kill them. That's what's going to happen.

They could have at least tried to develop one of the Predators like they did in the first movie, but instead the Predators and the aliens both just kill everyone the same. There is no Predator helping a bus full of school children. There is no Predator trying to save a guy that falls off a building.

Aliens kill. Predators kill. End of story.

Speaking of story though, there is very little story here. The first movie at least created a nice plot that the world revolved around. This movie has no pot whatsoever except Aliens land back on Earth and Predators come to kill them.

It's shallow and empty.

So there you have what's wrong with the movie.

It's dark. Even during the daytime this movie is incredibly dark. It's as if the director said go ahead and add a dark film on top of everything. Take the brightness level and put all the way down.

It introduces a bunch of great characters that have so much potential, and then it screws it all up by killing them right away instead of letting even a single one of them develop in any meaningful way.

Despite having a lot of great ideas in the mill, you can tell that somebody said Screw it, let's make a very simple kill them all movie.

That could have been OK except that it had nothing else going for it. Kill, kill, kill, without any kind of tension just makes for random violence without anyone to root for or anyone to root against.

It doesn't matter if the Predators win. It doesn't matter if the aliens win. It doesn't even matter if the humans live at all, because there is no character that you care about.

It's just an empty, shallow, dark movie that is completely meaningless.

I will say that it has some good special effects but most of them are surrounded by complete darkness.

I would take just about any Aliens movie over this one. I would even take just about any movie that has the word Aliens in the title over this one.

I hope you enjoyed this review.

Only the first one did it for me, 'Aliens' was a bit too fire powered and less suspense... I think I saw '3' and that did it for me... no more!
