Spotted Sandpiper

This beautiful bird flew over unexpectedly to the shore I was sitting by. I had been taking photos through my binoculars for a little while and caught this one before it tucked itself quietly into the plants along the shore.

Spotted Sandpipers eat mostly small animals and insects. It will snatch these off of the ground, or out of the air, with their beak.

Other sandpipers can be hard to identify from each other but this one's spotted front makes it stand out from the rest. Shorebirds like this can be difficult to spot because they are shy and blend in pretty well with their surroundings.
