New York - The United States military is developing a scary new weapon, a laser that can produce a human voice. The goal, to frighten the enemy to death.

This weapon called Laser-Induced Plasma Effect (LIPE) will produce a surprising sound - even words that human beings can understand. LIPE will confuse and frighten the enemy, experts say.

LIPE is the invention of the Virginia-based Non-Lethal Weapons Program, according to the Daily Mail. This weapon is a sound effect created by military scientists by manipulating the air using a laser. In other words, they create words from atoms in the air.

The researchers hope that the high-tech device could stop those who attack checkpoints, according to Defense One.

This weapon consists of two parts femtosecond laser (FS), which can spray light for 10 to 15 seconds and create a plasma ball.

Scientists then overwrite the plasma with a nanolaser, to manipulate the gap that can produce light and noise. This plasma ball, when fired with additional laser energy, can turn into a high-energy sound missile.

If it hits the right wavelength, it will sound like a horrible ghost sound. However, the energy emitted from LIPE is relatively harmless to humans and other objects.

The weapon creates sound at a certain point. Soldiers between guns and targets can not hear the sound of the horror. Experts believe, this plasma ball can be fired at a distance of 20 or 30 kilometers.

It is estimated that LIPE research and development cost around US $ 3 million or Rp 41.2 billion.

David Law, who runs the technology research division, says his findings are almost perfect, but his team still needs three or four kilos more. Law added, he also wanted to develop a laser to produce light and heat.

The sound laser does not project sound from the speakers, but emits it directly to the enemy. That is, the sounds emerge from the air.

Last month, the United States almost launched a super-sophisticated laser capable of spewing nuclear from the sky. The 150 kilowatts will be mounted on warships and capable of destroying drones, fighter planes, missiles and even other types of vessels.

"The prototype lasers were previously tested in the Persian Gulf, three years ago, on a USS Ponce amphibious ship," said Colonel Mikhail Khodarenok, former editor of the Military-Industrial Courier newspaper, as quoted by The Sun (26/3/2018).

"The Navy commander was not satisfied with the 30 kilowatt weapons test result and the project was transferred to another company."

Now, within a year, the new weapon is said to be ready for use on aircraft carriers or aircraft destroyers belonging to the United States military.

What about Russia?

Russia is also rumored to be developing a similar laser system, but information leaked to the public very little because the projects of the Red Bear State is very secret.

"Russian laser systems are integrated in other weapon systems, used to target targets and battle support devices," said Russian media military analyst TASS, Viktor Litovkin.

He described, laser guns have one fundamental weakness. So far, lasers can only be used in ideal weather conditions.

"For now, American laser weapons can only operate when the weather is sunny, when there is no rain, fog or cloudy," Litovkin added.
