Monthly Fitness Update (May 2019)

This month seemed like the cryptocurrency market for my fitness and health initiatives as it was very volatile with ups and downs but ultimately landed some positive results. Despite some dietary fatigue setting in, I was able to have another break from my diet during the long weekend cruise I had with the family. It landed me some great time to enjoy some sweets and carbs I have been craving for some time since starting at the beginning of the year. However, I ensured that I would continue with my workouts in order to maintain the discipline of remaining active and potentially offsetting some of the calories I had in excess of that needed.

With the exception of one weekend after returning from the family weekend Cruise, I was able to accomplish all of my fitness goals this month. While it seems all good in concept, I continue to be disappointed at my inability to really integrate new and engaging workouts. This has mainly been due to lack of time given my travels and workloads but I still want to find a way to try new routines as I have felt that my progress has been limited due to my stale workout routines that I have been doing for some time now. Despite the main metric I follow, my weight, going in the right direction; I can still see and feel that my body is not responding as it has in the past. I am well aware that it also has to do with my age but I still think that the body can still adapt accordingly.

I was pleasantly surprised once again at the result of my weight this month as I thought that the almost week of cheating on sweets and carbs would have done more damage. I know it felt that it did some damage as it took me a couple of days to readjust and gain motivation to continue the grind. However, I am now only a handful of pounds away from my lowest ever recorded weight as an adult. Once again, it is not really that impressive as I recall the last time I was at this weight, my body looked and felt very differently. At that time, I was able to achieve about an 11% body fat which is far from where I believe to be now as it is clearly visible when looking at the mirror and seeing that some clothes still do not fit. Therefore, I cannot rest yet as there is still more to achieve and improve on.

I think that the factor most pertinent to this achievement is the fact that I have been able to bring my Intermittent Fasting Window down to two hours and often have eaten only once a day. It really has not been too tough to manage as I find myself too busy to even think about the hours without eating in addition to some well-timed coffee breaks, liquids, and supplements. The weekends are more difficult as I really miss the morning breakfasts and brunches with the family as well as the food. However, I often find myself catching up with some breakfast for dinner during the week.

As usual, @actifit continues to be an integral part of my journey to wellbeing and fitness. The community and application continues to be a motivational force behind my activity and engagement. While my influence has continued to decrease as many others have done even better than myself to accumulate AFIT tokens, I continue to actively participate with the community as it is a key part of my motivation to remain actively on a daily basis. I had some fatigue this month where I could find little motivation to be active. It was @actifit and its ability to incentivize me with more Steem Power that engaged me to come back and become active again.

I have always been a competitive person so when opportunities arise to challenge myself to outperform, I often seek to seize them. As part of a wellbeing program I participate in, there is a step challenge that aligns well with both my fitness and @actifit so I signed up. I need to get 300k steps in 30 days which means I need to average about 10k daily in order to succeed in the challenge. This is great because this is typically my average activity for a day as well. While I am sure, like @actifit, there will be many others that well surpass my results, I am encouraged to participate to leverage multiple initiatives. This will tie in well with my upcoming European family vacation as we are set to explore a number of cities which will probably involve plenty of walking.

While I may see some steps back before being able to move forward, I am confident that having fitness and health as a priority will help me maintain my focus on my goals for long term and sustainable wellbeing for myself. Upon my return from my vacation, I will also be shifting some focus to train for the yearly 5K race I normally done in September or October. I was barely able to get it done in 30 minutes last year so want to ensure I can comfortably improve on that mark this year. Summer is tough to train for it but with the right motivation, I will be able to celebrate another goal achieved!
