The fear of rejection is one of the greatest fears we face as humans. Humans generally crave for acceptance from their fellow humans and the thought of being rejected gets some freaked out.

No one wants to be rejected. Be it a salesperson marketing his products, a preacher giving a sermon, a musician singing to the audience or a man wooing a lady, they all want acceptance. It is in our nature as humans to seek acceptance. Unfortunately, we do not get this acceptance all the time. Sometimes we are going to face rejection and we have to accept it as a normal thing.

The fear of rejection has stopped some people from doing things they really longed to do. Some are scared to sing because they feel the crowd would not love their voice. Some dread the thought of letting their feelings known to the person they secretly love because they are afraid of being rejected. But here is something you need to know.

Rejection is a part of life

Rejection is a part of life's experiences. It is a normal thing to be rejected. For the fact that you do not love everyone or want everything, means there are going to be people who also do not want you or whatever you have to offer. We are wired differently and so are our desires.

We are unique beings, therefore, our tastes are unique. What seems lovely or likeable to you might be disgusting to another person. You just have to accept the fact that humans are unique. So they have different ideologies, wants and desires. Another thing you need to know is;

Rejection does not make you less a human

Most times, rejection has nothing to do with you. The fact that you got rejected does not mean you are not good enough. It means you or your product is not what the person wants.

For instance, no matter how you market a cat to me, or how lovely it looks, I will never buy it. I cannot even accept it as a gift. Does that mean you are a bad marketer? No. Does that mean cats are bad? No. It is just because of who I am. I do not like cats no matter how lovely the cat looks. And no matter how well you market it, I will never accept to buy it.

Does that make me a bad person? No. For as long as I do not start being aggressive to other people's cats or insight another person to dislike it. This also goes to what some people refer to as racism. If someone from a particular race does not want to have a boyfriend from another race other than hers, that does not make her a racist. The same thing goes to males who prefer being with females from their own race. For as long as the person is not hating on the people from the other race or instigating others to do so, there is nothing wrong with people's personal choices.

However, people must also learn to limit their desires to themselves and stop trying to enforce it on other people irrespective of their relationship with that person. For example, if I do not want a spouse from another race, but my child does, I have to allow him to go for what he wants. The fact that he is my child does not mean we have the same desires. Stick to what you want, but learn to respect other people's choices too.

How to manage rejection

Learn to love, value and accept the person you are.

When you truly love and value yourself, other people's rejection will no longer mean much to you. You crave too much for other people's acceptance and validation because you do not love, value or trust yourself enough. Self-love will make you still believe in yourself and value yourself irrespective of another person's judgment of you.

Accept that fact that people are different and so are the choices they make.

People will always make decisions according to their personal makeup. Their choices relate directly to who they are and what they want. It usually has little or nothing to do with who you are.

There is at least one person who will accept you no matter what.

Know that no matter who rejects you, there is someone out there is willing to accept you and whatever you have to offer. Regardless of other people's opinion, there is still someone (or people) ready to accept you or your services and even help you become a better person or become better with what you do.

Conclusion

Keep improving on skills and personal attributes to become a better person and to perform better in your profession. However, never look down yourself or lose confidence because someone rejected you. Their rejection is sometimes not a reflection of who you are or what you do, but who they are.
