Major Step Forward: Accept STEEM/SBD Payments On Wordpress Sites

I want to remind everyone that Wordpress is the largest platform for websites with over 75M of them. While many know it as a blogging platform, the truth is that it is home to site such as the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. When I found this out I was initially surprised but Wordpress has enormous reach.

This is helpful because there are a number of applications that are being developed by Steemians to tie this blockchain to those sites. @steempress was something I covered a few months back. This application allows Wordpress content creators to also submit their posts to the STEEM blockchain. This helps to increase their exposure while also earning rewards for their content.

@TOKENBB is going to revitalize chainbb. This is a forum that is being redesigned to plug into Wordpress sites. How cool would it be to have sites incorporate a forum on their site which posts the content to the STEEM blockchain. Of course, this makes said content eligible for rewards, once again exposing STEEM to more people.

Now we have another application that was developed by a Steemian. This deals with commerce and enables any Wordpress site to accept STEEM and SBD as payment.

This was initially developed by @recrypto and forked by @sagescrub. The result is a plug in for Wordpress that allows for the monetization of a site using either STEEM or SBDs. Now, anyone with a store on Wordpress can accep this cryptocurrency.

Why would that be of interest to people?

The traditional ways of online payment, in comparison are too expensive. Did you ever deal with PayPal? They like to take a cut. The same is true for M/C and Visa. No matter who you slice it, vendors are always getting their pockets picked.

What is one of the biggest selling points about the STEEM blockchain?

NO TRANSACTION FEES.

This makes it ideal to operate as a payment system, especially for micropayments. Utilizing the true peer-to-peer system that is the STEEM blockchain, payments go direct from the purchaser's wallet directly to the sellers. There is nobody in the middle.

Here are some of the basic points of the application:

• There is no extra transaction fee. Payments are made directly between customer and store owner via SteemConnect.

• This plugin will automatically detect if payment was made once it is posted to Steem Blockchain.

• If payment is not completed within several minutes of submitting an order an automatic payment reminder email will be sent to the customer with instructions for submitting payment. This is a fallback for 1) the customer doesn’t complete the transaction, and 2) the payment detection functionality in this plugin stops working for any reason.

• Currency exchange rate between FIAT and STEEM/SBD is automatically calculated at time of checkout.

• Currency exchange rate between FIAT and STEEM/SBD can be optionally displayed below the product price on the product page.

This is exciting news. Suddenly, because of this one plug-in, 75M websites can accept STEEM and Steem Dollars as payment.

Here we see one of the most valuable features of the STEEM blockchain, the community. @sagescrub was having an issue and solved it. Instead of keeping it hidden, it was open up for all to use. As was stated in the post, this is the advantage of open source code. It can be built upon to create something even better.

At some point, commerce is going to become a bigger element on here. We are seeing the development of applications that can tie that in. As the concept of STEEM reaches more people, we will see applications like these utilized by people. While it might be slow at first, the growth rate will pick up as the entire ecosystem grows.

We are seeing a wonderful push as we move towards the end of 2018. The next year is going to be very exciting on the STEEM blockchain.
