Steem Apps: Dating And A Rise From The Dead
The progress of Steem keeps along. Yesterday I came across a couple of things that I want to mention.
We all know the online dating world is big business. Match.com and Eharmony are two of the bigger dating sites. Then we have all the different ones that focus upon specific demographics or interests.
Therefore, it only makes sense for this to come to the world of Steem.
@steemder created a platform for Steemians to interact with each other. Everyone needs a little love in his or her life and what better to find this with than another Steemian.
Many are already interacting on some form of a personal level to begin with. This is just the next step in our community. Steem based romances would add some spice to this place.
In taking a look around the site, it follows the typical pattern of most that are out there. We have three different levels. Free, gold, and premium. Each offers different levels of usage. The prices seem to be in line with the other dating sites although it has been a while since I was on any.

The other project was one that really excited me when I first heard about it. Yet, over the past year, it dropped from the face of the planet. I concluded it was another project that had big dreams but ran into issues
Fortunately, I was wrong. I received an email yesterday that updated the progress.
We are all familiar with Telegram. The application is used by millions and is working on a token that is going to be released at some point this year. Someone had the idea to create this same type service on Steem.
The value of Telegram is that it allows people to form groups around certain topics. Essentially, this is a messenging application which enables people to share links and pics while also conversing. Looking at the Deegram website, it seems this is going to be a mobile interface akin to Appics and Steepshot. I am not sure if or how they are going to work the messenger aspect into it.
Nevertheless, this is what the email said.
We've worked long and hard both with trying to find our vision and place in the Steem ecosystem as well as developing the app from the bottom. We chose not to go the ICO route as we wanted both to challenge ourselves and to deliver as best possible without the imminent high expectations.
We're quite pleased with the first version, but we are aware that there is still a long way to go.
As of now, we are not much different from Steepshot as we haven't implemented some of our desired features yet, but the overall design of the app shows somewhat what we are thinking.

They are looking for people to test in the Alpha stage.
I am excited about this since I thought this project was long dead. It will be interesting to see how much they eventually model this application after Telegram or if they go in a completely different direction. The fact the team remained dedicated to the project even when being silent is encouraging.
This is the wonderful part of Steem and the decentralized world. Projects can drop up out of nowhere and be added to the ecosystem. While we are slow in terms of impact across the entire Internet, it only takes one application to capture the attention of millions to take off.
These two are additions to the Steem family. It is always encouraging to see expansion of this platform.

And yeah, first of all about the silent part. We won't sugar coat it, it's been rough. Steem and blockchain is kind of frowned upon in Norway as we keep getting stuck on the "where does the money come from" part from all the skeptics. We try to explain, but haven't found a good enough way to do it yet, but slowly getting there. Another thing is of course resources, we're not funded and we rent ourselves out as consultants on the side to get funding for the project (we thought we could do everything ourselves but turns out we can't design, market, finance etc).
Another hickup has been Instagram showing their big boy pants over our name, which is unfortunate. We are currently in a dispute in the Norwegian patent office as we have the trademark for deegram but they want us to lose it.
And our last excuse is that we've been kinda shy and not wanted to brag a lot to steem as we aren't as experienced as the rest in here. But as you say, we haven't given up.
Regarding the concept and functionality, we've been back and forth. We're currently in a phase of redefining our vision and value proposition, not only to differentiate ourselves from the other image sharing platforms, but to make ourselves approachable to the masses.
User centered development both in terms of features and what Deegram should be is our main focus right now (as well as iterating over the product, because as @fredrikaa says: we're far from done).
The bright side is that for every Norwegian we attract to the app (and a couple of them has already made around 30 cents and are astounded), the closer we get to worldwide adoption.
We're all doing our part in this ecosystem, and we finally feel like we contribute as well!

Great idea @aggroed. Perhaps a token will help with their marketing and exposure. Also puts a price on it through the Steem-Engine DEX.

Hyped about this app! Although it will take some more rounds with user feedback to get everything right.
A steem dating app should do ok. I mean most people on the dapp will already have a common interest of crypto or at the very least steam. Seems pretty straight forward creating a community for those people to interact.

These Dapps are just the latest kf the expanding list of Dapps to broaden our ecosystem to build what will ultimately become thr best decentralized community anywhere. No need to create the demand as it already exists just need to ensure that interfaces provide a good experience to attract users. I hope they also sign up to State of the Dapps to see their progress!
