What Is @dan Really After? Steemit-KIller Coming?steemCreated with Sketch.

in #busy5 years ago

Since the release of EOS, @dan mentioned a few different times that he was going to create a "Steemit-Killer". Of course, we hear this rumor many times about projects that were going to destroy Steemit. Yet, they are still here.

Ironically, what almost killed Steemit was Steemit themselves but that is another story.

There is no doubt some lingering blood between @dan and @ned. Their parting was before my time here and I never really delved into the drama (@whatsup is handing out DRAMA tokens though). Personally, I do not care about what happened in the past, only where things are going.

Dan put together some wonderful creations. We cannot question the skills he has. The three blockchains he developed have enormous potential, with each new one enjoying more success than the previous. Therefore, if anyone can create something that was obliterate Steemit, it might be Dan.

Bitshares, Steem, and EOS are all important blockchains. Bitshares is a DEX. When I first encountered it, I thought that all of Wall Street could be picked up and dropped on here. Steemit obviously was a social media site designed to model Reddit. Finally, EOS is the "Ethereum-killer" meant to serves as a virtual computer for the world.

Where all of these projects end up is anyone's guess but they are all off to a good start.

EOS was widely successful raising multi-billions during the ICO. While there are some issues in the first year, looking at the activity along with where the market values it shows the excitement surrounding it. There is the prospect of it changing much of how we interact.

Which brings me back to the main point: what is Dan really after? Is he out for revenge because of the old rift? Why is he in a combative mood?

For those who are on here more than a few months, Steemit is a private company and an interface to the Steem blockchain. It is not Steem. Personally, and this is a view held by many, Steemit.com is a rather poor interface with better ones available on here. Busy and Steempeak are more advanced desktop ones while esteem and Partiko tend to be popular mobile interfaces.

I wrote a while back that I do not even understand what "Steemit-Killer" means. There are so many who confuse Steem for Steemit that I question what they are talking about. Certainly, Dan knows the different so I hypothesize he is after the company itself.

My stake is in Steem, thus I do not have loyalty to one company. I want to see the entire ecosystem grow, not just one small part of it. I am a believer in decentralization thus have little compassion for a centralized company, especially one that spent a lot of time trying to control and dictate how things went on here.

Did Dan take some of the lessons of Steemit and is working on another blogging platform that is kick-ass? It is highly possible, if not probable. He has a ton of talent and resources that match it. Quite frankly, the world is awaiting the application that goes mainstream. Is this what he is referring to?

Then there is the idea that he is swimming in a pool with some very big fish. This was posted by @ackza..

This sounds promising if it is true. The government looking to implement blockchain could really help move things forward.

So then why this?

So let me get this straight: the incumbent Presidential administration is aware of your work and is interested in talking about setting up hybrid chains which would radically alter the way the government does business and you are focused upon Steemit?

I mean honestly, I am a lover of Steem and believe in what is being developed here but Steemit Inc spent the last 4 months just trying to survive. Their goal is to get out of survival mode and into thriving. I am not sure it is of the highest priorities to someone sitting in a position to promote one of the largest blockchains out there.

Personally, I am all for more projects. We are in the process of establishing a system which can benefit all of humanity. Obviously, another place to post content and get rewarded can only benefit the masses. Why shouldn't people get paid again for the same work?

Thus, I hope that Dan unveils something truly spectacular. There are 7B people in the world, half who are on the Internet. Facebook has well over 1B users (2B accounts) while Steem has 50K accounts transacting each day. We have maybe 100M who ever had a crypto wallet of any kind meaning we are just scratching the surface.

We need all the growth we can get.

Steem is an ecosystem that evolved away from just a blogging platform. We are seeing a lot of other applications that have nothing to do with content of that nature. This is a good thing since very little of the Internet traffic is blogging related. The most valuable social media outfits are not Wordpress and Blogspot (Google). Instead, the value of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube far exceed it.

We are also in the process of setting up an alternative to the existing system. There are so few people truly involved in this arena that it is senseless to fight among ourselves. That is what makes the Bitcoin splits so frustrating. They are all just flexing their egos trying to get their way while the powers that are set the intention to destroy all that we are creating.

Dan is one known players in this industry for a reason. What he developed is remarkable. Now it is time to move things to another level. If he is creating another social media platform that he believes is kick-ass, I am all for it. We need all the projects we can get.

I just fail to see why he keeps being Steemit into things. To me, it seems a bit petty based upon the standing of EOS (top 5) and Steem (around #50).

But, hey, at the end of the day, copy/paste works well on my computer so posting content in two different places and getting paid for it works for me.

i tend to lean towards him being petty. If he was really going to do something to bring down steemit.. he'd have done it by now. All talk and no show = petty and small.

Hey, @taskmaster4450.

I read through the comments to see if someone else had said what I'm going to and didn't see it. So, if I missed it, I apologize for bringing it up twice.

It could very well be that Dan has some kind of Steemit Killer, intended to be a better social media dApp then Steemit is. However, in my mind, if that were just the case, he'd be better served to keep it completely under the radar rather than using opportunities to talk about it.

What talking about it serves, though, is to get him better coverage for whatever it he's got planned. Dan is merely using the bad blood that is supposed to be there to get his newest creations press. It's working, especially among us. If he does have a Steemit killer, he will also need a community to use it, and he figures he can pick some people off of STEEM.

If you go and look at Dan's wallet right now (something that is subject to change obviously), he still has quite a bit of SP left. Meanwhile, Ned's has been reduced quite a bit. I don't think that means Ned's abandoning anything (how would I know either way?), but it doesn't seem like Dan has completely abandoned STEEM either. Not at this point.

I guess the coming weeks will tell, but if Dan is the person I think he is, he's not out to kill STEEM, he's out to make all blockchains better, which may mean forcing the competition to follow his lead, where he was never really going to get STEEM to go where he wanted it to while he was here and dependent on Ned and company.

one point that also jumped out to me while reading this:

the "SteemIT"-killer.

Not Steem.

Thus, who knows... could potentially be a new far-superior UI still operating on the Steem blockchain...

oh, the suspense!

Hey, @rok-sivante

Very true. The quarrel, if any still exists, doesn't seem to be with STEEM itself, but with Steemit (and there's plenty here that share in that sentiment).

re: on the STEEM blockchain

Now, wouldn't that be a twist. Everyone thinking it would be on EOS, and then boom! It's on STEEM. :) Or even a combination of STEEM and EOS to earn either or both. Since we're talking hypotheticals. Maybe I should look forward to the launch more. :)

I’d imagine the ideal to be something utilizing a bridge between the two - Steem for its existing ecosystem, and EOS for its smart contract capabilities.

Given BEOS just being launched to bridge Bitshares and EOS, it might be reasonable to expect something similar with/for Steem...

Personally, I think this makes the most sense. I don’t think he wants to smother anything, but rather use hype as a way to get attention. Great point that Dan has not pulled all his SP as well!

Hey, @alchemage.

I'm glad it does make sense to more than just me. :)

I suppose Dan could be more petty than I think he is, and all of this could be purely out of spite, or maybe he's learned some lessons about marketing, while he can use controversy and/or acrimony to his benefit.

It also sounds like he's spending way too much in DC, though. I don't normally think of that as a good thing. :)

Looks like he is not in favor of Steemit. He is saying Steemit is out of time. It is not a positive talk. Building a community takes time, and I dont think it would be smooth ride for who ever try it. I'm here now and suporting this place.

That is certainly true. The technical aspects are only a part of it: community is another.

That said, EOS seems to have a strong following so the community could already be in place.

Being top 5 chain, obviously they have at least a decent folowing.

I’m thinking that dan is brining up Steemit because it’s really the only known popular “somewhat” crypto social media platform. 🤷🏼‍♂️

i believe his departure was a good thing, it meant that @ned can concentrate on building steem and @dan can use his creativity to build better platforms. and it has worked well for both of them. EOS and Bitshares are growing fast while steem is doing well to. it was a win win

Hard to say since I was not here. EOS is definitely a major development and Dan did well in bringing it to life. Would that have happened if he was still messing around with Steemit? Probably not.

That makes a lot of sense. I did not understand all the developers still creating on Ethereum knowing there are speed issues. The fact that TRON and EOS are picking them off from Ethereum does not surprise me.

Interesting developments indeed, sorry to just blast a link on your post, but it was apropos and I had just stumbled across it earlier. Binance blockchain was also new to me, but again makes perfect sense.. The game is getting more fierce by the day..
